Give Me the Code

Funded Apr 6, 2016

Technology, especially technology use in the classroom is a growing field that is making a daily impact on student learning. Students with the use of technology are able to acquire 21st century skills which will be very handy for them as they grow and develop into successful adults.

I try to integrate technology as much as I can when it comes to my students, keeping it strictly relevant to their academic goals. Something that I began introducing to my younger students was the concept of coding, which has become very popular in education across the nation. Through a website such as "Code.og", students are able to successfully develop skills of coding, but more importantly, skills of logical and critical thinking.

Getting the chromebooks in the classroom gave me more flexibility to integrate technology with my students on an individual level. Due to funding issues, my school is not able to provide laptops and iPads to every student and have sets for each classroom, our technology is very limited. If the students can work on their own instead of as a group, it gives them the ability to learn on their own, which every child in every school should have.

Students love the concept of technology, computers, iPads, interactive whiteboards and smartboards. Anything visual captures their attention, and when you make it fun for them, they don't even realize how much they are actually learning. Every student has warmed to a piece of technology that can be provided for them because most of them do not have it at home.”
