The students will be eager to begin reading books that have been chosen for them that they may not have read before.

    The students will be assessed on their ability to assess how professional writers tell their own stories as a way to get them to think about the how narratives work. This is the first step in having students develop ideas for their college essays in November.

Access to academic English through profound and complex texts such as Richard Wright's "Native Son" is absolutely crucial to ensure their success in English class as well as in their later academic careers. My students will need all they can to prepare themselves for the rigors ahead in their lives.
