• Rice, Noodles, and 2025... Happy New Year!

  Happy Lunar New Year! We are off to our 2nd semester and the kids had a great break. Now we are continuing to learn about the Lunar New Year. The highlight of the Lunar New YEar celebration is the food that we cooked for them. The hot pot made it easy for my colleague and I to make the noodles and the rice cooker made the rice come out perfect. Some of the students have never eaten asian rice and they loved it with the barbeque pork and dumplings. The cutest part was watching them try to eat with chopsticks!

• Ring in the New Year...Lunar New Year!

  Thank you thank you so much for all you do for my classroom! The dragons are beautiful and the children were so excited. They were practicing dancing around the classroom with the heads. The laughter was priceless and the learning continues. The food was delicious as well as the cute photos they each took. The picture frame adds a finishing touch. We celebrate the Lunar New Year with a bang and it's one of their favorite afterschool activities they participate in.

• Lunar New Year 2025!

  Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Lunar New Year! We are off to a great second semester and they had a great winter break as well as myself. Now we are learning about the Lunar New Year and having the new laptop is so valuable. Thank you for letting the students use the laptop when they forget theirs at home. It stays in the classroom and the students love the fact that it is touchscreen! The wooden sticks and red paper plates were used to make fans. Thank you for making our classroom culturally responsive!”

• Happy Lunar New Year!

  Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Lunar New Year! It's so wonderful that there are different ways countries celebrate the new year and at our school, Lunar New Year is so important! We are getting ready for our afterschool activities with family and friends. The materials were used to create a beautiful dragon that we will use to ring in the new year. The students love the chocolate coins that were put into red envelopes. These red envelopes are supposed to have coins or paper money for good luck.

• D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read)

  Woo hoo! The books are a hit in my class and my literacy groups! I have students who love reading for leisure and these are books that were requested. We tied in these books to the Lunar New Year and all time favorites such as Charlie and Mouse. When I see them reading they are sharing what they read with their friends. I hear them talking about what they read and how funny some of the books are. The replacement books about 23 iconic women as well as Asian Americans are very informative and we use it during our Language arts block.”

• Culturally Relevant Books

  Thank you so much for fully funding this project! We received the books and the kids love them all. Now when we have our Drop Everything and Read time the students go straight for the new books. The Dim Sum book is one of their favorites because many go to restaurants that serve dim sum. I also have play food that looks like dim sum so they try to find it in the book. I am Golden and Eyes that Kiss in the Corners are many favorites also. Books can change so many lives and all classrooms should have culturally relevant books where students see themselves.”

• Culturally Relevant Library

  Thank you, thank you so much for fully funding this literacy project! Books are so important in the classroom and having culturally relevant books are imperative. This month Lunar New Year falls on January 29, 2025 and the students are already learning so much about the holiday. The books are so much fun to read and I now have to have a check out system because they all want to read the new books. I don't know what I'd do without Donorschoose and your help.

• For the Love of the Game

  The class store is thriving because of your donation! The games are a hit and many of the students used their class dojo points for games. I had to explain how to play each game, but once they understood, they loved it. To try to give it to them all, I only made it 10 points and they were so excited. The games were Trouble, Connect 4 and Sorry.

  The scarves and socks were given to the students who needed a new pair or who came to school without a jacket. Your donation has made a huge impact on these students and we are eternally grateful.”

• We're Having Balls of Fun!

  Wow! What an impact this project has made on my students' health. They used to just sit under a tree or play tag, but now that they have kickball, they love it. They didn't even know the rules of the game, but they love it now. My students are very competitive and love the challenge. The parachute is so much fun, too. They love running through the parachute before we pull it down. I didn't realize how many students have no idea how to jump rope so we had to start with baby steps but they are little rabbits all over the yard! You can hear the screams of laughter all day long!”

• Hearing is Believing!

  Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The students love STEM and now that they have their own headphones that are clean and sanitized and just for them. We use these headphones all day for all subjects, especially language arts and math. They use them for our required minutes on iReady math and reading. They got to pick their color and have been doing a great job taking care of them. Technology can be very expensive and they know the value of these headphones. The dry erase markers have already been distributed and each child now has one in their desk.
