  • Life Goes Full Circle

    Funded Jan 16, 2024

Wow! This is a special project that truly means a lot to my students and myself. They are now understanding that everything we get from Donorschoose is not always just for them. They are understanding what empathy means and how helping others can make a huge impact in their lives. The elderly were so surprised when they received these care packages. They don't have many visitors so reading a simple but heartfelt message from my students made them so happy. The bedside organizer was a hit and the eye glass holder was perfect! Thank you Allstate for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yokoyama

  • I Wish You More!

    Funded Dec 30, 2023

Thank you again for fully funding this project! My students saw that I received a box from Donorschoose so they asked me to open it in front of them. They saw the books and wanted to know why I had so many of the same title. I told them that each of them would be receiving a book at the end of the year but each student would have a special unique message that I have written for only them. They said, "Can you write it now and give us the book?" I told them that we have so much to learn from eachother and I wanted to make it special so I would be taking my time to write them a message.

    On behalf of my students...

Thank you as we continue to "Believe"!”

  • Clean, Fresh, and Ready!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

Thank you so much for funding this project! I told the students that they need to brush their teeth at least 2 or 3 times a day to keep the cavities away. Many can't afford to visit a dentist to get their teeth cleaned and only go if they have a cavity to fill. Less time at the dentist is my goal and the toothpaste is a must thanks to you!

Obviously it's important to keep their bodies clean and smelling fresh and the soap was given to the parents. I can tell they are clean and taking daily showers by looking at their fingernails. They are clean and looking good.

The tshirts fit them nicely and they wear them at least once a week and no more hand me downs!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yokoyama

  • New Clothes, New Year!

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

What a great way to kick off the new year! The weather in California is cold and though it is nothing compared to the East Coast, it is very chilly for the kids during the early morning of the day. I have a couple of students who just wear a tshirt and with no jacket, sweater, or scarf. The sweatshirt and sweatpants looks great on them and I know they are snuggly and warm. I put the detergent in bags so when they get picked up afterschool, I hand a bag out to the parents. the kids love the socks and many love the smell the shampoo has. I have 3 students who are taller and bigger than the others and the deodorant and larger clothing are needed when they come in after running and sweating on the yard.

    We are truly blessed!”

  • February 10th..Happy Lunar New Year!

    Funded Dec 28, 2023

Thank you so much for fully funding this Lunar New Year project! The year has begun and the students have been reenergized and ready to go. The pastel dragons are beautiful with the gems added to give it a 3D effect. We have many students of Asian descent so this is their big celebration and the treat bags were great! A candy was placed in a red envelope as well as a good fortune card. They decorated their white bags to take home. The favorite were the noodles that they took home to share with their parents. Noodles represent long life and what a great beginning to a fabulous new year!”

  • Keeping Our Tummies Full and Bodies Warm

    Funded Jan 8, 2024

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The tiger is out of the classroom and they kiddos are happy, reenergized, and learning everyday! The few students who come in late are happy to eat the snacks you have provided. Dried fruit is easy to pass out and they number one choice is the mangos. They don't want to wait until we get yogurt to eat the granola so we pass it out before they go out to recess.

Their favorite part of the library is the comfy blanket they can cuddle up to. They call it their rabbit. because it is so soft and furry! The library is a hit!”

  • Celebrate Lunar New Year!

    Funded Dec 14, 2023

Thank you so much again for fully funding this Lunar New Year project! We are already planning our celebration for the Year of the Dragon. The canvases were used to paint the animals of the zodiac. The paints are so vibrant and really bring make the picture pop.

The dry erase cloths are so much better than the block erasers they were using. It easily fits in their blue bins as it doesn't take up much space. The best part is that they can be washed!

  • A World Awaits Through Books!

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you so much for fully funding this project! The student received the books and we have been reading them in our Literacy academy group. I have the advanced group so they go through chapter books so quickly. We have literature circles and they are taking the reins in their learning. I faciliate their conversations after they read a few chapters from the books: A Hundred Dresses, Woodward and McGee, and Ling and Ping. The group that is reading A Hundred Dresses love it so much that when our time is done they want just 5 more minutes!

  • STEM in the Classroom

    Funded Dec 29, 2023

Thank you so much for fully funding this STEM project! As the new year begins so has the learning! The students love the Pixel art activities as it keeps their minds challenged! It is so quiet in the classroom because they have to figure out the code to create a picture. I had them work in pairs so they could help eachother and there are so many activities to choose from that they wanted more time. We used the ziploc bags to store the pixels so we would not lose any.

  • Year of the Dragon!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for funding this Lunar New Year project! The banner looks beautiful and we have received so many compliments. The book, Wish is used during our literacy academy. It is used with my advanced group. They are sponges when it comes to reading. We learned about Diwali in our Knowledge section of our language arts block and we drew and colored pictures depicted in the books. The Lunar New year will be Feb. 10th but we are already preparing for the festive occasion by getting red envelopes with the chocolate coins ready!”

My students are incredible! I have 28 motivated English Learner students eager to learn. My students come from a low socioeconomic background with limited resources available. We are a Title 1 , Performance Improvement school with 100% free lunch program. Many parents work 2 jobs and are struggling to support the family. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, they have an insatiable love of learning! I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
