My students do not come from affluent homes, which means their parents need to spend available funds on things like food, clothing, and shelter. Many of my kids don't have computers or internet access at home, so they are at a real disadvantage when it comes to using technology to support their learning in school. These are kids who work hard and who want to become engineers, doctors, and teachers, yet they are already behind the eight-ball when it comes to having a way to learn the skills they will need down the road. We are asking for a class pack of 15 Sphero Bolt+ programmable robots to use with 108 economically disadvantaged fifth-grade students, so they can begin to learn coding, programming, and logical/sequential thinking. I have a (personal) single Sphero and the kids LOVE it; it is my goal to get them set up with enough robots that they could work in teams of two to program the robots and learn to write code. Other than the protective covers, I will provide all additional accessories such as ramps and obstacle course cones; we just need your help to acquire the robots! Thanks for considering us; whether you decide to help my kids or someone else's, your generosity is greatly appreciated!
