  • Tangible Makes It Relatable!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Coming into this school year filled with uncertainty, I recognized the need for my students to be able to access information in a different way. The transition from online instruction to face to face has been challenging, given that the students in the 12:1:1 setting have spent the past two years without the one to one support needed for them to show progress.

The Phonics dominoes allow for the students who already struggle with decoding multi-syllable words, to be able to use simple CVC words to jump start their journey into decoding.

The answer buzzers have helped to foster team spirit and cooperation, especially when used during our 'Jeopardy Review' team games.

Thank you donors for continuing to give educators on this platform, the ability to offer our students access to skill sets in various creative ways. You are appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lewis

  • The Stories They Read Show the Lives They Lead!

    Funded May 9, 2022

Your donation of relatable books has allowed my little scholars to not only see themselves in our class literature, but has also given them the opportunity to read and listen to stories that highlight their own experiences.

The books are on full rotation in the classroom library, even after being utilized for Social Emotional sessions and during DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) group and independent reading periods.

My students and I are grateful for your continued support of this platform.

    Your generosity is truly appreciated.”

  • Listening Makes Them Smile!

    Funded Oct 29, 2015

Thank you so very much for your donations that made my listening library possible. We received our books and my students love, love, LOVE listening to the books on audio. They look forward to reading with a lot of enthusiasm since they are now able to hear the words being read and can follow along, already knowing the words.

Reading in my classroom does not follow a set pattern. Even though I do have a period designated for silent sustained reading, reading comes in all forms and across all contents. I firmly believe that the more exposure to text that my students get, the better their reading abilities will be. With that thought in mind I prepare texts for each level of student in my classroom which is sometimes challenging but worth it when the taught concepts are mastered.

The Listening library is very useful for my ELL students who are now able to read along even with the disadvantage of limited phonetic and decoding strategies. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lewis

  • Oh The Places They Will Go

    Funded Oct 24, 2013

Thank you so very much for your assistance in the purchase of the listening center for my students. As I had hoped, my students love it. My lowest tier readers never tire of utilizing the listening center in groups or as individuals. They have made it such a big part of their daily reading time, that even my highest tier readers ask to utilize the center.

The listening center is utilized during the Silent Sustained Reading period (SSR) that occurs everyday in my class. The most fascinating part of having the listening center in my class is that it has prompted my students to want to read more. They don't even mind re-reading the books in the listening library. Our library is small but it will definitely grow to encompass a wider genre of books in the future.

Your generous donation made this possible and I am greatly appreciative. It is an amazing encouragement to know that there are kind hearted people as yourself who recognize that reading is the most fundamental resource and must be made accessible to all learners. Thank you loads and loads!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lewis

My students are special needs 4th and 5th graders who have come prepared for an awesome year of learning. Though most are a few levels below their counterparts in general education, they are anxious to tackle the new common core initiatives. However, due to their low levels in reading, they are faced with obstacles that may prove even greater when coupled with the specific demands and rigor of the new requirements of the CCLS.
