As we begin the school year in this unusual way, students in my class are doing their very best to be present and engaged in distance learning. These materials will support them to stay focused and motivated. Headphones are essential to two-way communication during live online instruction. Many students attend online meetings from common areas in their homes, where avoiding distractions is difficult at the best of times, let alone with family members also studying and working online. Headphones will help create a physical and virtual learning space where students can do their best work. By sending home quality art and origami paper, our class will be able to have fun and express creativity as a group. Students are more engaged when they can express themselves using diverse materials. I will also be sending home magazines, glue, and scissors for making collages and found poetry. Whiteboard markers and dry erase page protectors will offer students a chance to work and make mistakes off-screen. Included with the page protectors will insert such as place value charts and other graphic organizers to assist them in math and literacy.
