Funded Aug 30, 2018What an amazing experience we have been having with these literacy games. The children's independence around running these games and participating with one another has been amazing. They have truly taken ownership of the maintaining and operation of the games. Students really enjoy the information board game as well as the making predictions. They like to check one another using the answer card. I have enjoyed how they self-correct one another, and have each other go back into the small paragraph to find the answer. Through these games, even my low students have tried to read, which in turn is helping them increase their reading abilities as they are attempting to read grade level text in an inviting space. Students are also helping one another through the reading which is building our community relationships. The folder games has allowed my students who don't do well with large groups or my behavior students who don't work well with large students still enjoy reading games where they can work independently or with a partner. I have also seen groups of 5 work with each other to solve one folder game. These games have allowed my students to build their confidence in their reading abilities, especially my high students this enriches their reading which is difficult when majority of the class is reading below level, but allows them that sense of independence because they don't have to do it with me, but can work with one another. I allow them to choose between the fiction and the non-fiction which allows them the freedom to explore. Lastly, these games have been a reinforcement in the concepts we have been teaching in a non threatening enjoyable space, where I have seen the transference on tests. So thank you to all who supported this project, you have truly been a blessing to all of us. Both me and my students thank you for what you have done, and we are enjoying these new additions to our classroom.”

Funded Sep 27, 2015Thank you for patiently waiting for an update about what has been happening in my classroom. Would like to begin by telling you how excited the students are everyday to use these tablets, and supplies you have provided for us. Right now we have been using the tablets for increase exposure to reading books. Due to the limited size and accessibility to books within my classroom and the school the tablets has been a great assistance. We have been using an app called EPIC! which as a teacher I can give each student a profile and they are able to say what type of books they like to read. From there, they have access to a ton of popular books that I just cannot afford to get on the shelves. They also receive badges for how long and how many books they have read. This has been a great tool for getting my students into reading. While we read books in the classroom for 20 minutes everyday, the students look forward to using the pads to read books as well in a different way. Another way the students have been using the tablets has been to have picture books read to them online. Using the storybook online website, students are able to pick some of their favorite books to have them read to them. Its amazing how quite they get as they listen to the book being read to them.
Right now, the most exciting thing happening for the students with the new product is the fact that they are in more control, as where Ms. Robinson is telling them what to do. They enjoy reading their own books, creating stories through the different apps, working on skills they feel they need extra practice in. The students are able to explore their own learning, which is amazing preparation for the future. Also when they have a question about something, for example, what is a red moon? Who was the first animal to be cloned? What is cloning? They are able to take charge of their own learning and research to answer their own questions. Which is amazing to see children take upon this role, because, for so long it was look to the teacher for the answers and now they can look to themselves and take ownership of their own learning which is a powerful understanding to grasp at such a young age.
Some of my students who have been enjoying and appreciating these devices the most has been low students. Through these supports they are able to excel and feel as if they are part of the class. They are not always relying on me or a higher student to assist them, but they can figure things out and enjoying the learning process on their own. So WE cannot thank you enough for the support you have shown to us. We truly appreciate everything you have done to support your classroom. From myself and all the students in RM 106 we say THANK YOU!”

Funded Jul 8, 2014Would like to thank all of you for your extreme generosity. The students have absolutely been loving the reading materials they have received. They are always asking to stay during recess of down time to read and listen, play games and create new things through the tablets. These materials have also made them very independent. They are very strict in how to maintain the materials and keeping all the tablets in proper working order, locked away when not being used and charged. I do not have to remind them how to maintain the supplies.
You have truly made a difference for my low students who struggle to read books on their own. I have been downloading books that have an audio version as well so students can read books they enjoy, but might be above their independent reading level. From this they are able to listen and follow along with books that other students in the class are reading. It is such a highlight the lower achieving students do not realize this is very beneficial for them or feel singled out because they are unable to read because it is something all students enjoy to use.
We are also in the process of learning how to create movies on the tablets as the students prepare to make commercials for the books they are currently reading. We have also created other technology projects through the tablets as well, and I cannot wait to see what else we can do with the technology you have now given us.
Lastly, my students send the biggest thank you to all of. All 25 of their faces lit up as I opened the boxes with them. They went straight to the principals and also to other students explaining what people have done for them to have these supplies in their classroom. Through your donations and support you have sparked my students in wanting to help and donate to others. They are currently doing a donation project to help others in their community based on how you who gave through donors choose has given to them.
We thank you again, and extremely thankful for your loving hearts to donate.
Sincerely,”

They are always asking to stay during recess of down town to read and listen to the listening center. These materials have also made them very independent. They are very strict in how to maintain the materials and keeping all the books, Cd's, and headphones in order. I do not have to remind them how to maintain the supplies.
You have truly made a difference for my low readers who struggle to read books on their own. I have been recording myself reading some of their books and burning them on to cd. From this they are able to listen and follow along with books that other students in the class are reading. Funded Nov 26, 2013Over the past 2 months, my class has had the privilege to use the items you donated for us. The pencils, seats sacks, mailboxes, and paper. These things have been great! We have been doing many great projects with the paper where the students work on math problems and post them up around the room, as well as doing many group activities. My students are delighted with their seat sacks. They enjoy keeping their books in their seat sacks and reaching out from them as soon as I say Independent Reading. You have truly helped with the organization and allowing less items in my students desk, making it a lesser distraction for my students to be able to focus. I thank you so very much, your donations have truly touched me and my students. We are excited to use these items daily.”

Funded Apr 28, 2013These resources are amazing! My students ask me to play these math games everyday. They are truly using the math skills they have learned in the classroom and applying them to the game. It's Amazing! They are excited to play these games, whenever math games are written on our daily schedule their faces light up. They even want to try skills they haven't even learned yet and see if they can figure it put on their own. They have truly amazed me over these past few weeks of what they are capable of. Through these games I am able to introduce skills and strategies and find the appropriate game and skill to reinforce that skill in a center. It also allows me to review the many skills we have learned though out the year. Thank you very much for your donation and the smiles you put on my students faces.”
