  • I Can Read! Decodable Text for Beginning Readers

Through the science of reading research I have learned that students need ample opportunities to practice their newly acquired reading skills.   • Goodbye Worksheets, Hello Morning Bins

    My students were so excited to see the new morning bins in our classroom! They couldn't wait to get to these hands on activities.

    With children spending so much time on screens, I want to provide as many hands on opportunities for them as possible! My students are now creating patterns, building towers and using their imagination for all sorts of creations! The building items with magnets are especially a hit!   • Decodable Books for the Science of Reading

    As we embrace The Science of Reading in our classroom, we are reading more and more decodable books. I would like to thank you for your donations to provide these books to my class! I have found this particular series of decodables to be one of the best for the students I teach. They are based on skills we learn in first grade, and do not include a lot of extra sight words or skills the students have not yet encountered. Who doesn't like to get a new book to read and enjoy???

    The titles I selected are going to be a big hit with the students. From Elephant and Piggie to Percy Jackson, there will be something for every reader to enjoy!”

  • Phonics Time Centers!

    Thank you so much for enhancing our classroom with these new materials. The kids love their center time. It is important to me that the time they spend in centers is both engaging and beneficial. By providing many varied learning activitiesI can ensure that the students get the appropriate phonics practice they need.

    The students were very excited to have some new materials to finish out the year. One of our support staff was able to use the alphabet tracing cards and do some guided practice with a couple students that needed it. It was great. Thank you so much for supporting my students!”

  • Practice Makes Better and Better!

    I am not a fan of the old saying, "Practice Makes Perfect". Instead, I like to share with my class that "Practice Makes Better and Better". We celebrate growth and learning in our class.   • I See Me, in a Book!

    I have a very diverse group of learners! I want to represent all students in our class through literature and in our classroom library. In this project, I looked for books that reflect some of the diverse backgrounds in our room. I would like to thank you for funding this project "I See Me, In A Book" ! These characters are not only likable, funny, determined, but also relatable to my students.

I teach in a high need community with very diverse learners. Over 50% of our population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Many student are reading below grade level and a variety of different languages are spoken. All enjoy hearing stories and looking at books. Each day they come into school full of life and excited to be there. Their love of school and learning is amazing!
