  • Even More History!

    Funded Feb 11, 2020

There are no real words that can convey how appreciative I am for your generosity. Quality literature is very important to teachers, especially in fourth grade. My students are now starting to appreciate the small nuances of text, including theme and genre. They need great examples of text so they can learn to make inferences. This is perhaps one of most difficult aspects of language arts to teach. I have included pictures of the books so you can see what the students will be reading because of you very special and wonderful people..”

  • Can I Work On The Floor?

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

Well leave it to Amazon to get these chairs here just in time. The children used them today, and they were a bit hit. I think they were a bit overzealous in their usage as they were exciting about the freedom to move around. I observed several kids moving the desks from area to area all over the room to get "the just right spot." I didn't intervene because technically this was observation time.

I think that will subside as I become used to suggesting just right places to sit. I am really excited to see the future with these great little desks. I've posted a couple pictures so you can see the results...Thank you again.”

  • A Little Bit of Fun

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

First of all, let me say thank you for all the hard work you do. I am grateful that we teachers have this venue to make requests that ordinarily fall on deaf ears. I am also quite thankful that this simple request was taken so seriously. Sometimes it is not necessarily the most brilliant or inspired project that will make a difference in the classroom. Sometimes it's the things that most people take for granted that can inspire learning. Some forget that it is also a teacher's job to make sure their students learn to create personally and artistically. This request addressed this need, and thanks to you,it is now a reality.”

  • We Really Want to Go Back to Class Now...

    Funded Jan 18, 2019

Your donation and caring will affect the well-being and comfort of many children for years to come. As their teacher, I am also grateful that I will also benefit from fresh air inside the classroom. Although there really is no substantial proof that air purifiers have any effect on preventing colds and the flu , I can't help but believe that breathing clean air in the classroom will keep all of us much more healthy, and that will also help our immune systems fight for us.

You are so important to our lives-you have no idea how grateful we are in here...”

  • I'm Becoming Very Popular Around Here

    Funded Jan 16, 2019

These projects that have been matched by Salesforce, and other partners are allowing the children to learn in a cleaner, healthier environment. Today I was again able to give the children healthy snacks during recess. I can't express how great it is to be able to do something to satisfy the hunger of the many kids who usually watch other kids eat. Teachers see many situations during the day that have nothing to do with academics, but are often much more pressing. These well-being and nurturing details should be done at home, but unfortunately, very often they are not.

The air is clear in my room. Recently, someone had thrown a crayon on a heater in the art room, and the smell was all over the school, but no smell our room!”

  • Everything I Should Have - But I Don't...

    Funded Jan 10, 2019

Today rather than give out a snack to those that didn't have one, I decided to give one to the entire group. This was because I wanted to incorporate a little nutrition lesson before recess. The snack was going to be an ultra healthy option that would necessitate a bit of preparation- pressed kale, spinach, mango, pineapple bars...

All it took was me saying "at first bite you might not be into it,but give it a chance..." they liked them...

It was really fun being able to hand out snacks at recess today.

    Thanks again.”

  • Let's Eat Something Healthy Every Day!

    Funded Dec 21, 2018

Today I was able to pass out the first round of snacks during recess. I can't express how great it was to be able to do something to satisfy the hunger of the many kids who usually watch other kids eat. Teachers see many situations during the day that have nothing to do with academics, but are often much more pressing. These well-being and nurturing details should be done at home, but unfortunately, very often they are not.

Thanks to you I can feed these kids, and as a result they can concentrate on learning instead of lunch time.”

  • I'm Still Waiting for the Milk Glue to Dry!

    Funded Dec 28, 2018

Thank you for providing my students with these very basic tools. Glue guns are really necessary for the kinds of projects kids do in fourth grade. I usually prefer the children to do the projects in class, rather than send them home and take the chance that they will convince their parents to "help" them. This way I can supervise the process and make sure they do the work.

Fourth graders begin to learn about the history of California during Social Studies. I have tried to help develop their natural interest in the subject matter by incorporating project-based learning. All written reports are complemented by a model attached to a presentation board. These report boards allow the students to practice individuality and creativity and also include a shelf to display the finished model. The photos are a sample of what I do.”

I've recently relocated to another crowded inner city school. My new classroom presents many of the same problems that were solved through the generosity of donors in my previous school. My quest for equity continues. My new classroom is unacceptably behind in both technology for excellent instruction, and in simple comforts like good books to read and even a little rug to sit on.
