Say It With Sign: A Study of American Sign Language

Thank you so much for your generous funding of my DonorsChoose grant, Say it with Sign, to support after-school ASL instruction. It means a lot to my students and me.

Your contribution has made an immediate impact! The first thing I did, after letting the students peruse all the new books and games, was assign each child their very own sign language book (Sign Language for Kids by Lora Heller) to bring home (and to and from class) so they can practice and improve. They are so excited and proud!

The new books and games are a hit! My students love playing the game, See it and Sign it, and solving the sign language puzzles (word searches with signs as clues, etc.). I am pleased to report that not one child has forgotten to bring their book from home to class. These resources are helping my students improve their ASL skills, signing and reception (understanding what is signed to them). The resources and games have inspired a new energy and sense of purpose in class. Your donation has touched my students. The idea that "strangers" cared enough about their education to donate such great materials to our classroom has surprised and inspired them. You have provided them with much more than books!
