  • Chromebooks for 6th Grade!

    Funded Dec 21, 2018

Thank you so much for your support in keeping my classroom as up-to-date as possible with modern technology! My students are constantly working on math platforms that involve websites, software, etc. that require internet access. I am overwhelmed by the love and kindness! Thank you to the moon and back!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Libros! Libros! Y Más Libros!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom! We are so happy to have new independent books to read! I feel so grateful to see my classroom library grow with books that are engaging and relevant for my students! I love hearing them talk about books they are reading at home, and love watching them trade and make recommendations to each other! I feel so grateful to have a community that values our students and pitches in to help make their learning experience more exciting! Independent reading in Spanish not only enhances their language abilities in comprehension and fluency, but also gives them perspective taking skills that are essential for the real world!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Chromebook Lock and Charge Carts!

    Funded Aug 16, 2016

Having Chrome books in our classroom has been so meaningful to the work we do in sixth grade. From individualized online math programs, to typing final stories and reports, we use our Chrome books every day! Without the charge carts that you so graciously donated, this could not have been possible for my students. We are so lucky to have such supportive followers, and my students and I appreciate every second. It is so great to see my students take charge of their classroom, and safely locking away the Chrome books every day at the end of school. Some students even ask to stay after school to organize all of the computers!!

Thank you for making learning fun.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Making 6th Grade Math a Blast!

    Funded Mar 13, 2018

I am overwhelmed with gratitude. As I have started opening boxes of new math games, workbooks, and materials, students are already so excited to break them open! Spring is the best season to let students apply their knowledge that they have gained throughout the year, to new activities and problem solving! As a teacher, I am so grateful to be able to have such a supportive community that allows for these opportunities to happen in our sixth grade classroom. There are no words to fully express how lucky I am!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Class set of "El Odio Que Das" by Angie Thomas!!

    Funded Oct 10, 2017

Our project has been funded!! How amazing is that? I can't thank you enough for your generosity, and giving our Hurley students this opportunity. Students will be so excited to have new shelves of fresh books in Spanish, that are at their interest level! I am so excited to have students open boxes of new books!!

In 6th grade, we have so much fun reading core novels instead of textbooks! El Odio Que Das, is a book that my students can relate to and find interest in! In order to build great readers, we need to allow students to read material they actually connect with and enjoy!

    Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Project-Based Learning Materials and Supplies!

    Funded Dec 28, 2016

I cannot thank you enough for the impact that your generosity has had in my classroom. First, we used the report covers for Stock Market Portfolios. Students tracked different companies stocks for a period of two weeks, and then did an analysis based on the daily fluctuation. This was a great, and engaging way for students to master their knowledge of integers! I had several students infatuated with how the stock market worked, and so excited to come to class each day to check "their stocks."

All of the painting supplies have been put to great use as well! Students chose a famous piece of artwork, wrote a narrative piece in the point of view of one of the figures, and painted their own version of the piece! It was so much fun as a teacher to watch students show their artistic talent, as that is something that I don't get to witness often as a math and Spanish teacher.

Again, a big thanks from my students and I!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Chrome Books for ALL Sixth Graders!!!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

I am still taken back by your generosity and belief in our students here at the Hurley. Technology will be by far one of the greatest gifts we have received thus far, and will take the student learning to an entirely new level. Students are so excited to have 21st century skills infused into their every day classroom, and start to learn through a variety of methods, including multimedia! For students who do not have access to technology at home, this project will give them an opportunity to deepen their knowledge, and obtain much needed technological and communicative skills.

Thank you to the moon and back.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • ¡Libros, libros, libros!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

I can't than you enough for our new Spanish books! Students were so excited to look at new options in our classroom library, and already calling dibs on certain books! As we approach PARCC and testing season, I try to intentionally stress the LOVE of learning. In order to get students through a tough season, I find the learning needs to be enjoyable and relational to them as young individuals. Thank you so much for giving me students the opportunity to fall in love with reading, and remind themselves that there is certainly more to learning than a test.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • Let the Creativity Begin! (Please!)

    Funded Nov 23, 2015

Thank you again for your generous donations! Students are beyond excited for our classroom resources that are now available to them! As we have been receiving boxes of chart paper, markers, and our class printer, students have been "Oooohhhh"ing and "Ahhhhh"ing, while asking when they can start the next project It's so nice to give students the opportunity to step outside the box (and textbooks) and allow them to express themselves and their learning in ways that are engaging to them. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

  • We Love Chromebooks!

    Funded Dec 24, 2015

I am overwhelmed by your generosity towards our sixth grade here at the Hurley K-8! The new Chrome Books have been already put to great use where students work on both math and Spanish. Students are so much more engaged when 21st century technology is involved, especially sixth graders! I am so happy with the progress they have made thus far, and can't wait to watch them grow even more with our new resources. Not only is your funding so helpful for general engagement and energy in my classroom, but it provided students the resources they need to be prepared as they continue to further their education, and eventually enter their professional lives.

Thank you for giving students such a valuable opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wood

My students are sixth graders in a Boston Public School. They spend alternate weeks of instruction in English and Spanish. They truly love reading and beg me for "5 more minutes" every time we have independent reading time. They are eager to read books in both languages in order to become fully bilingual and biliterate citizens.
