• Clean Instruments Are Happy Instruments!

  It is now nearing the end of October in our band classroom. Students were very excited to get their clarinet and saxophone swabs in September. They are diligent about using the swabs at the end of rehearsals - I don't even have to remind them! They totally get why it's so important to swab out their instruments. Your donation keeps the instruments from collecting moisture, keeping them in playing condition long into the future.

  We so appreciate your help in funding our project. The swabs will be used for at least the next 5 years.”

• Euphonium Players Need Euphoniums!

  Dear Donors,

  It's been some months since you funded our Donors Choose project. I wanted to update you with how the wonderful impact that you've had on our band program.

  The new euphonium is used every single day by grateful students. It's shiny, beautiful, and works perfectly. The students sound great on it, and as a result, the whole band sounds better.

  Additionally, I am using the Conductor's Music Stand every day. It holds lots of books, scores, and papers. Last year, my old stand would often drop all of my music on the floor in the middle of teaching: an annoying disruption! Class runs more smoothly now.

• Saxophones Need Cases!

  In the months since we were so lucky to receive the saxophone cases, music stands, and xylophone mallets, I have already seen a major difference. First, the music stands were a major help at the concert in January. Every student had a music stand to share. There were no students play 3 or 4 to a stand. Because every student could see their music, we sounded better and the concert ran more smoothly.

  The two new saxophone cases replaced old cases that were barely staying together. The two students playing these cases were very happy to replace their old cases, and now walk around school with their instruments proudly.

  Lastly, our percussionists very much appreciated the new xylophone mallets. These mallets are harder, so they can play more loudly and resonate better off the xylophone bars.

• Trombone Mutes Will Not Mute Our Success!

  Thank you so much for your generosity. Your donation helped our jazz band purchase four trombone cup mutes. They have been used extensively all year, including at concerts, rehearsals, and special performances. The mutes have totally changed the quality of sound that our jazz band is capable of, and more importantly, given all of our jazz band students confidence. They all now see how they can sound just as professional as the better-funded schools in the suburbs. Having the appropriate equipment, including the mutes you helped purchase, gives my students pride. They will be used this year and for years to come.

• Trumpet Mutes for a Great Band Sound

  I am writing to you about 2 months after we received the trumpet mutes that you helped us purchase. The day we received them in the mail, the students were so excited. They could not get enough of the sounds they were now able to play.

  We have our spring concert coming up tonight and we will use the mutes in a tune called "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." This is a beautiful jazz ballad and the mutes add this new wonderful color to the middle section of the tune. We will continue to use the mutes in future years. They are such a wonderful addition of equipment to our jazz band.

  My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. You have made a true difference in the quality of music education my school is able to provide. Thank you for supporting the arts and my students.”
