You Can’t See Me...Now You Can!
Funded Aug 26, 2018My students were elated when they heard that additional microscopes were coming to the classroom. Some of my students have never used a microscope before and so they were thrilled to examine the cells various collections of plant and animal tissues with the microscope. Cell biology can be an abstract concept but it became tangible and real when they were able to use the microscope to see the cells for themselves.
It was wonderful to see my students support each other during their learning. Those who had experience using the microscope willingly stepped up to facilitate and supported those who were novices at using the microscope. Your gift has not only supported learning among my students but has also empowered them and strengthened my classroom community.
The microscope has helped the English language learners tremendously. As you know and image is worth a thousand words and goes a far way in helping them to have a better understanding of science.”

Funded Apr 10, 2018Thank you so much for funding my project. My students were elated when we received the microscopes. It was fulfilling and engaging to watch my students first learn to use the microscopes and then view plant and animal cells. There were student teachers who were fairly skilled in using the microscopes and it was amazing to see them demonstrate to their peers how to use the microscopes. This was such an empowering moment for them as they stepped into a supportive role for their peers. They were also an inspiration to their peers because some of the students who learned how to use the microscopes also want to be student teachers to other students as they learn how to use the microscopes.
Here are some things that my students had to say having used the microscopes:
"The microscope is a way for me to see animals and cells better. It helps me to understand and visualize what I see." Henry.
"It is the first time that I am actually using a microscope and it surprised me to see the image in the opposite position." Jia Wen
"It was great, I loved it! Dope microscopes!" Steven
For some of my students, this was the first time that they had ever used a microscope and for all of my students through your generosity, they were able to engage with science in a meaningful and concrete way that they will always remember.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Williamson
