Whooo Gives a Hoot About Earth Science?
Funded Dec 29, 2022I am so thankful for the donation you made to help fund my "Who Gives a Hoot About Earth Science" project. I have used the materials to create STEM labs for my students to help them understand scientific concepts and to provide experiences that they would not have gotten to participate in otherwise.
When we studied rocks and minerals, there were several terms and concepts that were difficult to comprehend without actually getting to perform tests on actual specimen, for example: how to differentiate between different types of minerals, what rocks are harder on the Mohs scale, how to perform scratch and streak tests, different types of breakage, etc. The Mohs scale kits and mineral kits I was able to order allowed my students to have those important hands-on experiences.
My students LOVED dissecting the owl pellets! It really rounded out our study of food webs and was an awesome exclamation point onto the end of our environmental unit.”

Picture This
Funded Nov 29, 2022I am so grateful for your donation to help fund my "Picture This" project. I have used the document camera in so many ways, for example: showing PowerPoints, demonstrating lab techniques and procedures, and to work math problems. What's more exciting is that my students have also been able to use the camera to show and describe labs results and projects to the class. My physical science classes used it to create videos demonstrating Newton's Laws of Motion and examples of simple machines.
It proved to be a fantastic tool for my Juniors as they prepared to take the ACT test in March. I was able to project practice problems onto the screen from an ACT practice manual for students to work and discuss.
My students and I look forward to using the document camera for many years to come.”

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 4 other donors.Suit Up for Science!
Funded Mar 21, 2022My high school students and I are so thankful for the lab aprons that you donated for our classroom. We received them towards the end of the school year however, we were able to use them during our acid-base cabbage indicator lab. The students were so excited to finally have aprons to protect their clothing and they felt like professional scientists as they wore them.
We are a fairly small high school with only two science teachers therefore, EVERY student at our school will get to wear these aprons multiple times over the course of their high school experience. We will certainly get plenty of use out of them for many years to come.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Wiginton
