Recognize and Celebrate the Identities of Myself and Others
Funded Nov 27, 2017Thank you so much for these books. These books will bring in diverse perspectives, open a space for children to see their own lives reflected, and assist the children in taking on global perspectives. We will now be able to explore literacy and language through authentic literature. We can't wait for them to arrive, so we can start reading them!”

Funded Aug 8, 2017These books have provided the children with real-world experiences of refugees and migrants, perspectives that the go beyond the surface-level one presented in the media. We have been able to use these books to make connections across the different historical events that have sent innocent people on forced journeys. These books have assisted in building empathy for those currently facing circumstances where they are forced to leave everything behind to survive. We are now doing an independent novel study, and these books have helped us to build background, have something to compare and contrast our novel to, and connect it to what is happening in the world now. These books have opened a safe spot to have critical conversations.”

Funded Dec 19, 2015Thank you so much for the novels. The students were able to explore historical, political, and social issues. It is sometimes difficult to discuss these issues, but these novels were a safe entry point into important discussions that reflect our histories and impact our present. The students felt empowered to be a part of the change after reading these novels. They began recognizing injustices and considering ways to make this world a more just place. Without these novels, these conversations would have been more difficult.”

Literature Inquiry Groups
Funded Aug 22, 2015These books have sparked curiosities, assisted my children in uncovering injustices, given voice to the children in Room 14, and most import, enabled them to begin seeing themselves as global citizens, ones who care about the local as much as the global.
It has been a pleasure to hear children beg for one more chapter, ask for 15 more minutes, or ask if we can finish the book. Sometimes all children need access to is quality literature in which they can see their lives reflected, you have provided that for my children. Thank you.”

Hey, Where Am I?
Funded Sep 18, 2014My students now have the opportunity to engage in readings that contribute to their overall understanding of the world. These books have brought other worlds into their own and forced my children to think beyond the local and into the global. My kids' favorite part of the day is literature circles because they get to engage in the experiences presented in the book with their peers. Characters from these books are being discussed in the lunch room and at recess. I am so thankful that you all have provided my children with these books. The only way you get better at reading is by reading. :)”

Using Art to Become Smart!
Funded Aug 2, 2012The art supplies has changed my classroom completely. My kids went from having no art ever to getting to learn about Piet Mondrian, Jasper Johns, and Salvador Dali. They are now able to look at art with a math lens. finding patterns, lines of symmetry, etc. They are so inspired by others' paintings and want to recreate them on their own. Not only has the art supplies brought a new teaching style to my classroom, but it has also brought motivation to my students. My kids will do anything for a free choice painting pass. I know that this art supply will not only impact my class this year, but also any class that I have in the future. You truly have touched many lives. I cannot thank you enough.”

Funded Jun 28, 2012My kids LOVE the new reading games in our classroom. They are extremely motivating and the kids are so engaged. It is pleasant to look out and see the kids smiling while also learning. Not only are the games motivating, but they are also challenging, really pushing the kids academically. Because there are a range of games, the children never get tired of them. The games allow me to work in small groups more frequently, better reaching the needs of all my kids. Your donation has and will continue to improve the academic environment of my classroom.”

Engaging Centers to Create Lifelong Writers
Funded Dec 18, 2011We really got to dive into the writing centers two Fridays ago. The students had an absolute blast. It was really nice for the students to be able to write without the pressure of going through the entire writing process. They were smiling the entire time.
Wednesday and Fridays have now become literacy station day. We have huge attendance problems at our school, and I have seen the attendance increase now that these stations are in place.
These centers that you have donated will forever change my students' perceptions on education and the way that I teach. I cannot thank you enough for what you have provided for my kids and me. ”

Building A Robust Vocabulary
Funded Dec 5, 2011You all have truly blessed by students with your generous donation. Without your donation, we would be learning vocabulary in a monotonous and boring manner. My students come to me with little to no vocabulary or even strategies for figuring out what a word means. You have now provided them with a plethora of vocabulary building and decoding games.
Last week my students got to play the games in their groups. One student said, "I didn't know learning new words could be so fun!". You have opened up a new door for my classroom, a door that is exciting and engaging. I am now able to work with small groups and conduct more productive intervention groups.
By your generosity, my students this year and many years to come have hands-on games to build a robust vocabulary. You truly have impacted my classroom and every student that will walk in from here on out. No words can thank you enough. ”
