Writing Across the Curriculum
Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you for your generosity and concern. Although, my students have an uphill battle to fight in such a tumultuous and racially charged nation - wide environment; it is because of people like you who have shown care for them that I keep hope for their future success.
The materials made a huge difference in determining whether some of my senior and special needs students will be able to be engaged, participate and complete their course work and educationally development virtually and online platforms during the pandemic.
It really has been an amazing and growing experience! Therefore, again, with heartfelt sincerity, once again we thank you for everything. We hope to collaborate with you again in the future to help enhance the educational and social experience of the West Side community. Until then, we will continue to infuse technology into our classroom and challenge our students even during this continuing pandemic.”

Funded Jun 17, 2020I'm writing this letter to express my gratitude towards your support for my students. Whether it's life lessons or resources, I have always attempted to be there for them and I'm sure we will be in future. Your immense contributions helped me provide students with advanced technology which will and has greatly impacted their final studies and in preparation for the workforce. The new Mac Book Pro and IPads that you funded, not only helped students edit graduation videos and speeches but also it helped one student learn more coding that is crucial for his intended major.
I'm sure that the technology will also assist them vastly in college for completing homework, research assignments or even attending virtual meetings amidst the pandemic. Most of my students have overcome a lot of personal problems and financial challenges at home so this new technology will save a lot of money for their college expenses. Your support and care will be beneficial to them and position their journeys to college and careers.
Once again, thank you very much!”

Funded Mar 3, 2020I would like to thank you again for your kindness and support in enabling my students to read the following texts: I Am Malala; White Fragility: Why It's So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism; and Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption. These books have increase their awareness of human rights and social justice stories from around the globe.
Some of the skills or lessons introduced by these new texts were citing evidence and context clues, chunking the Text and contextualization, as well as supporting the current mindset of my Human Rights and Non Government Organization Clubs. They really have a better understanding of Justice Stories from a global perspective.
Reading time in my class looks like a study hall during the lunch time period.
There are particular students who are especially enjoying the new books, because most of my students enjoy hanging out in my classroom during their lunch period. This project has afforded me the opportunity to build them up academically.”

Funded Dec 15, 2019Give your donors the inside scoop about the trip - how did it go?
During Close Up, students had the chance to discuss current events with political experts, policymakers, and members of Congress or their staff, This trip explored Capitol Hill, produced eyewitnesses to the historic Impeachment atmosphere in our nation's capitol and two live congressional member meetings like Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Donald Payne Jr.; they participated in a mock congressional hearing and engaged with other students in meaningful discussions with peers from around the country to debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress.
What was one highlight of the trip for your students?
My students highlight was that they experienced the inner workings of their government in action. During this 4-day/3-night program, students make personal connections with the people, institutions, and iconic sites that embody our nation's past and Present. Then, on the way home they stopped to enjoy a buffet style meal at Golden Corral Restaurant.
We know learning doesn't stop when the bus gets back to campus. How did your trip inspire learning back in your classroom?
They were so inspired by their experience that many of them volunteered to participate in an upcoming State - Wide Symposium on Segregation and Education Equity.”
