Over 90% of my students are from low-income homes and art class is a special time when they get to explore materials they would not otherwise have tried. My students come from diverse backgrounds from many different countries, speaking many languages, with different religious backgrounds. As the art teacher, I get to see everyone in the school from Kindergarten through 8th grade and including a severe & profound special education class. Art is the beautiful way we can communicate with each other. Although many students come here behind in school, some with little education beforehand, our school has the highest growth rate in the network. My kids are curious, enthusiastic, and determined!
