Couch Potato!
Funded Jan 9, 2020Thank you for the generous donation! This is the final touch for our flexible seating classroom. The students are going to be extremely happy and grateful.
To some it may see like a couch is just a couch, however this piece of furniture allows for students to be at their most comfortable space. When we allow for students to choose their best place, they perform at their best.
Thank you again! Gracias.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019You have no idea how grateful and excited we were when we opened the boxes! To some the term "flexible seating" may seem crazy chaos, unattainable or expensive. However, thanks to you our students have a place to call home. They feel in a comfortable zone to be creative and problem solvers.
Students get to choose their seat and perform to the best of their abilities. They learn the importance of taking care of furniture, accountability when putting it away and best of all the importance of working collaborative with their peers.
Our next project consists of planting trees to beautify our environment. Stay tuned.
Thank you once again!”

Funded Oct 10, 2018The excitement the students had when they saw the big boxes was incredible. They had no idea what was inside of them, yet they were very grateful that someone had donated money to get them these materials. Students were eager to help and open boxes, they have the kindest hearts and are always willing to help.
Our small table has provided motivation for students to read in a small group with me. Learning the English language is challenging, however this does not stop them. Providing a more intimate setting helps develop a positive culture.
Using our magnet sight words and whiteboards help students lead each other, helping them take responsibility of their education.
Thank you for helping build a classroom where students feel encouraged to read and collaborate.”

Funded Aug 6, 2018I want to start by saying how grateful and surprised the students were when receiving their new materials. "Timmy the Timer" is what the students named our Kagan timer. We use it in various ways to get the students engaged such as the student selector and team selector. Students get excited when they hear the sounds and the suspense follows.
Our flexible seating is a big hit in our classroom, especially for students who need extra space to do work. Our cushions and desks allow for students to move around the classroom to better fit their needs.
Thank you for supporting our classroom, you have definitely helped jump start our year to a great start!”

The headphones will be utilized to enhance the electronic programs available in the classroom. Destination: To the Stars and ASU
Funded Dec 29, 2017Our trip to Arizona State University was beyond amazing! Our day started at 5:30 am, students overjoyed just loading the bus and seating in a fancy bus next to their friends. The students did not sleep in the bus, in fact they had their cameras and phones ready to take pictures of anything exciting they saw passing by. One exciting part of the trip was going under a tunnel for the first time, it was somewhat emotional for me seeing their experience, since some of these kids had never left Yuma.
Upon arriving to ASU, we entered a 3D observatory about Space and the Universe. Hearing their reactions and their faces throughout the presentation, I instantly knew it had sparked an interest in some of these students to know more on this subject. Some of my EL students don't fully have the English language down quite yet, however that did not become a barrier and continued to ask questions and showed an immense interest throughout the museum. Once home, it seemed as they did not want to get off the bus and wanted a return trip to keep exploring.
The next day each one showed up back to class ready to talk about their experience and share with me their favorite part. We are currently writing letters to the ASU staff to thank them for putting this event together. Once again, thank you to our donors for allowing us to experience this visit, and truthfully without you we could have not been able to accomplish this trip that will remain in their hearts forever.”

My Future Leaders Need My Attention!
Funded Jan 20, 2017We did it! These freedom writers are on their way to be successful leaders in 7th grade! As we prepare for the AZELLA, this table will help me connect with my students during our small groups. A deeper connection will be made and help these students become critical thinkers, as the only academic conversations are done at school. It is hard to communicate at home when their parents speak Spanish only. A million Thank you's!!
Tears of joy are being done right now!”
