Innovations Academy students are from all over San Diego County. They share a common bond because they have stepped away from traditional public schools and stepped into the imaginative world of project-based learning.
My students are a diverse group of learners. Many struggle with learning disabilities and have a history of negative experiences in math and science classes. My goal is to welcome them to the world of math and science with fun projects and activities such as kite-building, balloon twisting, cooking and origami.
My classroom is filled with various religious, cultural and socioeconomic groups. Some students cannot afford class supplies of their own.
These students are eager to learn and have are becoming self-motivated. Our projects are student-led. We start every day with a morning meeting and end everyday with a "class council" that consists of peer acknowledgments and problem-solving discussions.
