Our Middle School serves the children of a relatively small town (about 7,000 people). There are about 420 students in grades 6-8, with about 44% of the total student population participating in the Free or Reduced Lunch Program. Despite our relatively small size in comparison to neighboring schools, our instrumental music program has grown by about 60% in the last few years. Unfortunately,we lack many of the percussion equipment necessary to perform typical music composed for middle school band and orchestra. This problem becomes extremely evident when several of my percussion students come back from community band events excited to tell me about the tambourine they got to play, how their wind chimes had all the bars, or how their snare drum stand did not collapse like it sometimes does here. With some help we hope to soon provide our students with high quality equipment to use for years to come!
