  • Knockout Math and Language Arts

    Funded Mar 28, 2024

Thank you so much Horace Mann Insurance, Tammy Clemence, and DonorsChoose Anonymous' teachers! This has been an awesome year for my students. Once a week my students play a Knockout Language or Math Game that builds on the lessons they are learning. Although, their favorite so far has been the Getting to Know You Knock Out where they look at a picture of a classmate and spell their name.

The pictures that I had taken on my phone disappeared after it updated. So, the pictures that I will upload will be of a Knockout game called Knockout Sight Words. This will help them practice their sight words in a fun way. Sight Word Flashcards aren't working well for my students because they aren't focusing on the cards. But, the Sight Word Knockout will help my students read their sight words, therefore improving their reading fluency. My students have played more games then this, as I mentioned above, but all the pictures of them vanished!

There isn't one particular student who especially loves these games. All of my students have loved playing these, and beg to play them every day.

Again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my students these TeachersPayTeachers gift cards to purchase the Knockout games.”

  • Our Chairs Are on Strike!

    Funded Feb 24, 2024

You can see, in my pictures, how stunned my students were when they saw that their chairs were on strike. The pictures show them reading the signs and their expressions! One student was late to class and said, "Looks like today is going to be a fun day!"

I read the book, Chairs on Strike, to my students. I had one of my students take pictures using my phone while I read. When I was finished, I looked at my pictures and she had accidentally turned it to video so that's why I didn't provide pictures of me reading. I can say though that they loved the book! One student asked me what I did wrong to cause my chair to go on strike.

This set of books will be used this next year, and many more years to come, as a monthly read aloud and writing project. I will post videos of us on our class YouTube channel. https://youtube.com/@sheawebster7925?feature=shared

Thank you again for this marvelous opportunity for my students!”

  • Wood Burning Art and Combustion

    Funded Jan 1, 2024

My students used these wood burning tools to make Mother's Day Gifts. First, they used a pencil and drew their design on a bamboo cutting board. I told them that it had to be a simple design, but once they started using these tools they were shading! It was like watching them use their Chromebooks, and teaching me how to do things! I should have known they would soar!

I had to watch them so closely and I was so enthralled at their artwork, I forgot to take pictures. All I had on my phone was when they opened up the box.

This coming year, my new students will create their own name plaques using wood pieces and these wood burning tools. They will design and burn their names onto the wood, adding decorative elements if desired. Students love having a name plate on their desk and these will be a special end of the year gift they can take home. This is just one of project of many my student will create using these wood burning tools.

Thank you so much for this wonderful tools that you have given my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Webster

  • Care Kits for Our Community

    Funded Oct 17, 2023

Thank you so much for providing this wonderful experience for my students! My students made the care packages for our community. We donated them to high school students who needed gloves, a warm hat, and a blanket for the cold weather. You would be surprised how some of our students live. I wasn't allowed to show the names of the student on each bag. That is why you can't see them. They are turned around.

My students had so much compassion while filling the totes. One student told me he wished we had enough things to give more people in need, "Like the homeless people." Some students started telling stories of how they see them in nearby towns. "I feel sorry for them Ms. W. They are going to be cold," one student said. Your donations have taught my students about helping their community and about kindness.

We are so grateful for your kind donations and grateful for each and every one of you!”

I actually pressed the names, but I let each of my students press the top platen down with the heat press not plugged in. The first time I used it the top platen fell off and I didn't want my students to get hurt. They stood way back while I pressed the names.

We are so grateful for your kind donations and grateful for each and every one of you!”

  • Watercolor Bookmarks for Our Community and Store

    Funded Oct 10, 2023

Thank you so much for your awesome donations! My students have thoroughly enjoyed using these watercolor paints, paint brushes, watercolor paper, and paint cups! As you can see in my pictures, my students designed their bookmarks with a pencil. The idea of using a pencil to sketch a design came from one of my students! Then they used oil pastels to create their design. Finally, they used the watercolor paints to paint over their design. They learned that the oil pastels resisted the watercolor paints. They thought that was neat. One student wanted to use only the watercolor paints for his bookmarks. Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take his picture because his mom didn't sign a permission slip. I can tell you that I watched him paint the entire watercolor paper and then used his paintbrush to splatter paint on top of the first layer. It was a very cool piece!

When my students' paintings are dry, I will cut them into thirds and stamp our school name on the back. Then I will take them to our public library. One of my girls asked if we could take some to our school library for our librarian to give other students. She said, "You know Ms. W, sharing is caring."

My students also will sell their bookmarks in our school store. They will begin this after Spring Break. They are excited to purchase each others' bookmarks! They knew they would start this after spring break so they have been saving their money and counting it all week!”

  • Reading and Writing With Stylus Pens

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for all of your donations! Since receiving these stylus pens, my students have been able to write on the Chromebooks. It was hard for my students to decode words with their fingers because the lines were wide. They were marking out letters and then couldn't remember what the letter was. Now, they have more control of what they are writing. They are decoding multi-syllable words easier and their reading fluency is improving.

We have SmartBoards at my school. The SmartBoard company provides a software called Lumino where my students can write math problems on their Chromebooks. These stylus pens have been a life saver because they can write these problems in a straight line and either add or subtract. For example, when adding 278 + 316, my students can line up the hundreds, tens, and ones under each other and add.

My students ask every day, "Can we use our stylus pens to do this?" My students who were struggling with reading are more interested now because they can "mark up the words" and underline text in stories. Their comprehension is improving because they like using the stylus pens during reading.

Thank you so much for helping my students and fulling their wish of getting stylus pens that don't break the first time they use them. I did buy some stylus pens from Amazon and they were so cheaply made they broke the first time my students used them. My students were sad, but now they are excited to use this new tool every day.”

  • Snacks Help Learning

    Funded Nov 1, 2023

Thank you so much Allstate Foundation, Service Stars, and TIME for Kids for providing my students these snacks. My students get very excited about snack time in my classroom. In fact, they ask me when they can get snack. Some of my students don't eat breakfast, and these snacks keep them from getting too hungry before lunchtime.

In the pictures you can see the snacks that my students received from you all. Their favorite was the apple sauce because they had jokes on the bottom of them. They loved telling each other, and me, their jokes. You helped them will reading and comprehension also!

My students will have one more snack day and then we will be out of snacks. I am so thankful that you provided these for them. They have thoroughly enjoyed snack time!”

  • Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Aug 12, 2023

I want to thank you again Oklahoma State Department of Education for creating this event and donating $1000 to live projects in Oklahoma. August 12th was a wonderful day for a lot of students in Oklahoma.

I have been able to listen to my students, without interruptions, read individually to me because of the VEVOR F103 Wireless Calling System. My students really love this system and are eager when they number is buzzed. In fact if we run out of time, and I don't get to listen to a student, they don't like it. They love being able to read to me.

I have given the Graphite Smencils, Avide 22 Ballpoint Pens, candy, Brach's Star Brites Peppermint Candy, and Vinyl Stickers to my students as rewards. The stickers have been their favorite reward. They have found every pig sticker and placed them on their water bottle. I also have students choose to get a peppermint as a reward. They love those also.

The stamp pad and chapstick have been a favorite for my girls. They like smelling both of them. I wish you could hear them tell each other which smell is better, or which one doesn't smell very well.

The 3-Pack Silhouette Replacement Blade, Siser EasyWeed Heat Transfer Vinyl, Nicapa StandardGrip Cutting Mat, Magnetic Metal Board, Hiipoo Compatible Ink, and DHG PROFESSIONAL 50 Pack Corrugated Pizza Box, will be used later by my students for art projects. Art will help my students reduce stress, lower anxiety levels and improve mood.

My students are excited about coming to school because of your help. They love receiving these items and are very thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Webster

  • Fueling the Future With a Classroom Economy

    Funded Sep 5, 2023

By introducing my students to financial literacy concepts such as budgeting, saving, and spending, my students have gained experience in managing money.

When they received the UNEEDE pig light my students became very excited because they know I like pigs. They wanted me to turn it on as soon as we opened the box. Several of my students told me that "it was so cute," and asked if they could open the store right then. I opened the store and the first thing they bought was a Topper Pen for their Chromebooks. Since these were new to them they used them a long time.

My students still love to be the pencil sharpener each day. They have to draw a name each day to see who it will be. If I had known earlier, I would have purchased two pencil sharpeners.

They have enjoyed designing with the Logitech Crayon and creating their product. I unfortunately could not take a picture of them with their finished product because they all wanted to make either a bag, hat, or shirt with their name on it. Instead of making things for the school store they decided to save their money and pay to make something.

My students have learned so much about saving and counting money. After our break they will learn how to count change back to each other. Right now they can purchase items without coins so there is no need for change.

Thank you again for helping my students learn financial literacy. This is an important skill they will always need!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Webster

Even though sometimes my class is viewed as a whole, my class is truly made up of individuals. Individuals who want learning opportunities that use different resources rather than focusing only on textbooks. They want multi-sensory experiences that tap the different potential of each of them. They like to move and collaborate and take ownership of their learning. I am teaching second graders who are tomorrow's future and they need a community to help them. Your donations will help each individual student reach their goals one donation at a time. Thank you for helping each of my students get a successful start on their journey.
