Buzzin' for Bee Bot Coding!
Funded Jan 17, 2024Thank you for generously donating toward the Bee Bot Robot project. I have so far had the opportunity to use them with Kindergarteners, Second Graders and to introduce them to teachers!
When students use the Bee Bots, they are learning the basics of coding. In today's world, this is an extremely important concept to understand! Why, you ask? At this young age, coding translates to problem solving. Bee Bots work on a grid system and for each piece of forward or backward code that is entered, the bot moves 6". It can also turn left or right. Students have to make a plan, test it out, problem solve if it doesn't go as planned, and make corrections to the program in order to get the Bee Bot to its destination.
To increase engagement and make academic connections, I made 6 gridded mats, each with a plastic overlay. In these mats, cards like letters, numbers, addition sentences, words (the list is endless)...can be placed under the clear overlay. Students are challenged to spell words, find the number that has 3 tens and 8 ones, or navigate their Bee Bot through a map. Check out the photos shared with this and you'll see some examples of these things!
Students are more motivated when there are novel ways to learn. Thanks to your donations, Saco's PK-2 students will be happily learning for a long time to come!”
With gratitude,
