Sense and Sense Ability
Funded Dec 20, 2011I am still so excited to see just how much the students are enjoying the materials that you all help to fund. It has been amazing to help to create a comfortable and soothing sensory area for the students to utilize during the day. The materials have helped several of my students to remain focused and seated long enough to complete task activities. With other students we have seen a dramatic change in their behaviors during instructional time because we now have a variety of tools to offer them to aid with their sensory difficulties.
These products have also been of great benefit to the service providers that visit our classroom to assists with student services. They have found quite creative ways to incorporate many of the sensory balls and other items into their daily lessons as well. Using many of the items have become a part of the students' daily learning activities as it allows them the opportunity to take a break and to them have a little fun playing with the sensory toys. Man of the students have even begun to recognize when they are in need of a sensory break and are able to indicate specific items during the choice activity time!
Your donations have made a huge difference in the instructional day of some very amazing students and I am that you took the time out to share with them! Again from the bottom of all of our hearts thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Barnes
Oh the Places They Could Go!!!
Funded Nov 30, 2009The new library has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. The students are eager to read the new books and are excited about seeing book from various genres that they can select from. We have used the books during small group readings, individual reading time, and also have book sets with accompanying compact disc set up in our listening center.
I worried that their desire to read the books would fade after a few days of reading however they are continuing to read. Some students have their favorite book that they select every day to reread and then must be persuaded to choose another. Other students have partnered up to participate in shared reading time-each student taking turns to read a page in the book.
Needless to say I could not have asked for a better response from the students and have taken such delight in watching them develop their reading skills. Thank you once again for your generosity and support!
Thankfully yours,
Ms. Barnes”
