Keys to Success: Our At-Risk Students Need a Digital Piano
Funded Dec 28, 2010Thank you for giving my students a digital piano! We have already put it to good use, and it is sure to benefit many years worth of students at the school.
The digital piano is located near the entrance to my classroom and as students enter the room, many of them go right to it and start using it before class begins. During class, we use a timer so that all of the students get a turn using it. The students appreciate the more realistic feel and sound that this piano has in comparison to the cheaper keyboards that we had before.
We have also had class performances on the instrument. I have performed for the students and they have each performed for their classmates. The nice bench and stand help add to the feel of a real "piano recital."
Your donation has already enhanced the musical experiences of over a hundred students, and will enhance hundreds more in coming years. Thank you for your generosity!”

Help! Students At Risk. Please send guitars!
Funded Nov 26, 2009Thank you for your generous gift. The guitars that you helped to purchase for our classroom have already had a positive effect on the students and the functioning of our classes. Our introductory guitar course, which is in its second year now, has been limited to students that own their own instruments. Throughout the year, we have issues with broken, lost, stolen, or instruments that needed to be sold. Having these additional three guitars not only covers the days where the current students need them, but also brings us closer to the day when students will be able to sign up for the guitar course regardless of their family's financial situation. Thank you so much for providing these resources that allow the music classes to teach the students more effectively.
As you can see in the posted pictures, the students were very excited when the guitars arrived. They have been using them daily to work on their holiday songs, both "Deck The Halls" for our Christian students and "Auld Lang Syne" for our students of other faiths. I wish Donorschoose would allow us to upload audio files so that you could hear the beautiful music that your donation is helping to make in the lives of these young people! We all are very thankful!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and 5 other donors.Help! Students At Risk. Please Send Guitars!
Funded Apr 28, 2009Thank you so much for supporting our class's academic endeavors through Donors Choose! Because of your generosity, we were able to acquire three electric guitars. These guitars have already seen many uses in our music classes, and will see even more in the future.
The music technology students have been excited to add a new element to their compositions and recordings. They have been learning their first few chords and using them to accompany their singing. The music appreciation class has been learning to read notes on the first three strings. The Rock Ensemble at our school has used these guitars so that students who cannot afford instruments can still be a part of the group.
Most of all, these guitars have helped our school to run our first introductory guitar course. This class has students focusing on guitar skills every day. As with the Rock Ensemble, the guitars that you helped to provide are already allowing students that cannot afford to buy a guitar the chance to still take part. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity!”
