Reading is fundamental. If we read to our students for at least 20 minutes a day, that equals to 3,600 minutes in a school year and over 1,800,000 words. The less we read to our students, their vocabulary may not be as rich as others. The more we read to our students the better writers, communicators and people they will be!We know the benefits of reading, but having these books in the classroom will enhance my students vocabulary, boost creativity, and helps with development. Reading is very relaxing way to use your imagination and discover things about the world. Reading encourages students to gain a different perspective on life. Even at their level, students come up with different solutions of how the story can end. It teaches students to more compassionate and empathic. Reading books, the child will instantly access the author's mind and teach how other live, work, and think! Lastly, reading builds confidence. Working in an urban area, my students may only see a book at school. My aim is to read two or more books a day. While reading, I can introduce the concept of print (reading left to right), looking for shapes, colors, etc. Most importantly, it helps them to dream big!
