I was asked to change my art curriculum to emphasize STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics). This philosophy is designed to help prepare students for today's world by engaging in activities that develop the 4C's: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity.
I believe the iPad is becoming the most innovative and dynamic tool in art education and can help my students achieve the skills of the 4C's! Students will be able to create and share digital content focusing on Art and other components of STEAM. Students will be able to explore drawing, painting, photography, digital storytelling, animation, graphic design, and more through various apps! Aside from being an incredible creative device, the iPad also serves as a tool for collaboration, communication, and research. Students will be able to connect with other classrooms locally/globally, experience different cultures, and have opportunities to speak to experts. Students will be able to create their own digital portfolio to follow them throughout their school career by taking pictures of their artwork and publishing it to an online platform. Students can utilize the iPads as a research/reference tool when they have questions or need to refer to an image for inspiration. The iPad is also an excellent presentation tool. I will be able to wirelessly stream content from any of our devices to the classroom projector, so that all students can see what is on a screen from their seats. Students can then engage in other skill sets such as sharing, collaborating, critiquing, reflecting, and more!
The ideas to incorporate an iPad in the art room are ENDLESS! It would be wonderful to be able to teach richer, more engaging and challenging lessons, if students were able to have iPads to work with. Your donations will help these little STEAMers achieve so much and more!
