  • Look! My Very Own Book!

    Funded Jun 8, 2008

Thank you so much for your generous donation. I cannot wait for my students to work on their nonfiction books this upcoming school year!

It will be a time consuming project, but they will learn so much about the hard work that goes into writing, illustrating and completing a book.

The students will definitely take ownership of their work and, in the end, will become better readers and writers.

The nonfiction unit is my favorite because students are filled with interest and motivation when they are learning and writing about their topics. I know that with these books, they will be very excited and work even harder to show all that they have learned.

Thank you again for allowing me to enrich my students' learning experiences”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

Thank you so much for helping me organize my library and provide my students with a positive learning environment”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • Our Library--Part 2

I cannot wait to receive the bookcases. They will provide us with the space and organization that we need for our library books. My students and I will enjoy having these sturdy bookcases that will create an inviting classroom library.

In addition, I know my students will also enjoy taking home the literacy bag and sharing the story with their families.

Thank you for helping me provide the best environment for my students”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

  • Hands On - Butterflies and Ants

    Funded Aug 29, 2006

Thank you so much for your generous donation! I truly appreciate the valuable resources you have provided for my class. I cannot wait for spring to come in order to start my butterflies and ants unit. I know that my students will be thrilled to have live butterflies and ants in the classroom. It will be a great experience for them, as well as for myself.

Since it is best to observe the life cycle of butterflies and the hard working ants in the spring, I will have to wait until then to order my live caterpillars and ants. However, while we wait, we will use the reading materials and puzzles to build our background knowledge. Because I hope to have completed my butterflies and ants unit by May 25, 2007, my students will be sending their thanks and appreciation at that time.

    Thank You,

    Wendy Castill”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

    Funded Aug 30, 2005

Thank you so much for providing my classroom with crayons, markers and pencils! I am so happy and grateful that my students and I will not have to worry about running out of art and writing supplies this school year. I cannot wait to put them to great use in the classroom.

    Thank You!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Martinez

I am a first grade teacher at a school in New York. One of my favorite units of study is nonfiction because of the great amount of learning that occurs. My students' sense of accomplishment after they complete and publish their book is amazing. They work diligently to learn about their topics and use their knowledge, and writing skills, to create their own nonfiction book. My students love to explore new topics and ask many questions, and their excitement during the nonfiction unit is exhilarating.
