In my Kindergarten classroom, carpet time is how we begin our days and end our days. It's a place where the students come together as one to play, learn, and talk to each other. Over the past two years, I have used a small classroom rug, but throughout the year the students quickly grow leaving them sitting almost on top of each other. Having a new larger rug would allow my students to have their own safe area to learn and interact. The larger learning rug also improves the behaviors and safety in the classroom. A larger space give my wiggle-monsters some room to move without bothering the other students around them! The square design of the rug with letters and numbers makes carpet time more than just a place to sit, but also a learning game. I will use the rug to play active hands-on letter games offering the students the time to move that they need more than anything. This year our classroom spending budget was cut and I was unable to afford to buy a new rug for my classroom. With the help of some generous donors, my students will be able to enjoy a new safe classroom rug that gives them the opportunity to move about like 5 year olds should!
