Bean Bags for Seniors!
Funded Mar 26, 2025Thank you so much for your contributions towards the bean bags in my classroom.
As this academic year starts winding down, my goal is to find ways to have my students look forward to walking into my classroom. These bean bags have been instrumental in this, especially on Fridays when the students engage in mostly independent work.
I have had students arrive early to my class to claim their bean bag for that work period, I have had students ask to eat lunch in my classroom so they can be comfortable on the bean bags, I have had students move the bean bags over to their desk so they can create a bit of a hybrid work space.
I have no doubt that next year's seniors will enjoy and appreciate this bean bags! Thank you again!”

Funded Aug 16, 2024Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom!
My seniors have started their final year of high school and are already deep into the college essay writing process. These planners are helping them to not only keep track of important deadlines connected to the college essay, but also for all other aspects of the college process including applications, supplements, and letters of recommendation, resumes, etc.
In addition, I have seen my students use their planners to record important deadlines for their other classes and their after school activities/commitments.
I have no doubt that these planners will serve my seniors well for the remainder of the academic year!”

Funded Nov 28, 2023Thank you so much for your contributions towards my project.
When I was assigned to this new classroom in September, I was completely unsure of how to convert the space into an ELA classroom. Through your generous support, I was able to bring nature, color, and whimsy into my new classroom.
The large plants, in particular, have become a source of great joy for my students. During our weekly independent reading sessions, my students will go and sit in "the forest" to help them imagine that they are reading their selected books in a setting far away from our NYC classroom.
I also have no doubt that these additions to my classroom will be so helpful when we start our theater unit in February!”

Funded Feb 9, 2023Thank you so much for your generous contributions towards the chess sets for my classroom.
We had originally requested these chess sets for a one-time tournament between students of different grade levels in our school community. However, these chess sets have become so much more than that.
Students of all different grades now feel comfortable coming to our classroom during lunch. They immediately set up a chess board and know that there will be someone ready to play with them. Sometimes that opponent is one of their best friends, sometimes that opponent is someone in one of their classes that they haven't gotten to know very well, and sometimes that opponent is another student from a completely different grade that they had never spoken to before.
It has been a beautiful process to witness and I have no doubt that this will continue into next school year.”

Games, Games, Games!
Funded Nov 30, 2022Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom.
Each year, our classroom turns into the hub for seniors to come and eat lunch during their only free period of the day. The energy of this space shifts and changes from year to year. Some years we have had students that want a completely quiet lunch space to read and recharge. Some years we have students that want to spend the period having energetic and loud debates about whatever topics are on their minds.
This year, our seniors asked for our classroom to be a space of interaction during lunch, and specifically asked for these games to help them with that goal. It has been so wonderful to watch the students setup different chess matches with each other, while also cycling through Mancala and Monopoly.
I have no doubt that these games will create joy and memories for the rest of the year!”

Funded Aug 30, 2022Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom.
On the first day of school this year, we distributed these planners to each and every senior. My students were so excited to get to pick out the design and pattern of their choice and to have such an important organizational tool that they can keep.
We are now almost a month into the school year, and these planners have already proven to be immensely helpful. I have seen my students use these planners to write down their assignment due dates, to keep track of their after school activities, and to record their work schedule.
I have no doubt that my students will continue to use these planners to ensure a smooth academic year.
Thank you again!!!”

Gifts for Graduates
Funded Jul 23, 2022Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom.
I had originally submitted this project as a graduation present for my seniors from last year. Due to timing constraints, however, I wasn't able to distribute these resources in time for graduation.
As a result, I ended up offering these notebooks and pens to my current seniors. It has been so wonderful to see how my students have been using these materials. I have seen students use these journals to take down notes on feedback they have received on their writing. I have seen students use these journals to draw and doodle during lunch. I have seen students use these notebooks to writes lists of their after school responsibilities.
I cannot wait to see how else my students will use these resources!
Thank you again!”

Funded Mar 16, 2021Thank you so much for your contributions toward my project.
I originally created this project to obtain copies of "Oedipus Rex" for my seniors last spring. Unfortunately, due to supply chain issues, I was unable to source the needed number of copies of the play for each my students.
Instead, I used the funds to purchase a copy of the novel "Homegoing" by Yaa Gyasi for each my current seniors. We just started our "Homegoing" unit this week, and my students already so engaged with the novel. They are making such fascinating connections between the book and current events and are also voluntarily researching everything they can about Ghana. To my immense surprise and joy, I have a group of students who keep apologizing to me for "accidentally reading ahead" in the novel.
In addition, it's such a special and rare experience for my students to have complete ownership over their books. They are getting to take notes directly in their copies of the book and already talking when they will be rereading the novel and who they will be willing to loan their copy to in the interim.”

Funded Dec 10, 2021Thank you so much for your contribution toward these games.
Today was a snowy day with low attendance. Usually, this would be the type of day that we would have the students work independently on their writing assignments. Instead, as a treat, we brought out the new games.
The students had such a great time playing with (and against) each other. There was so much laughter and also quite a heated argument over the proper was to extract the Adam's Apple while playing Operation.
I have no doubt that these games will continue to bring fun and joy and sometimes heated debate to my classroom!”

Funded Mar 19, 2020Thank you for your generosity toward this project. I initially received these materials in March of 2020. I had planned to use these hats as a way of bringing together the graduating class of 2020 for the remainder of their senior activities - namely senior trip and senior picnic.
Clearly, this plan did not work out.
Instead, I brought out these hats and art supplies today, the day before Christmas break 2021. As the pandemic numbers in NYC are once again rising too quickly to process, this project brought my students a welcome escape from the world around them. They spent the period off of their devices and instead worked to create individual pieces of art. It was beautiful to watch.
Thank you so much again for your contribution.”

Ms. Vora
