Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader
Funded Aug 4, 2016Thank you so much for your generous donation. In my classroom and at our school, we believe in the importance of free choice reading to improve academic achievement and more importantly to instill a lifelong love of reading. Your donation allowed me to expand my classroom library so that students have new and exciting titles to read.
This year I was able to reach one of my students who is reading four years below grade level. He has consistently told me that he doesn't like to read. However, I was able to point him to a new book that he couldn't put down and that has changed his attitude toward reading immensely. I also have a group of "bookworms" who come to class during their breaks to check out books that aren't in their homerooms.
My students and I truly appreciate the books you have provided us.”

Ms. Chen
Teaching with Technology
Funded Mar 13, 2014I want to thank you again for your generous donation. One of the first projects our class completed was a book trailer project. Students were thrilled to be able to use our new iPad to complete this project. They were able use technology to authentically share their book recommendations to their classmates. Having an iPad to use for this not only made it easier for students to complete the project together, but they also found it very motivating. No more boring book reports! After viewing each other's book trailers, students were excited to read the books themselves.
Thank you for helping me instill a love for reading in my students!”

Ms. Chen

Funded Oct 1, 2013I want to thank you again for your generous donation to my classroom project. My students were so excited when the boxes of books began arriving. They couldn't wait to get the books in their hands. Since I've incorporated the graphic novels into my library, they have been in constant circulation and there is always a waiting list to check those books out.
For some of my students, this is the first time they have ever read a whole book by themselves. Reading the graphic novels has opened up the world of reading for them. Because these books are more accessible, my struggling students can finally see themselves as readers.
With your help, my students this year and in the future will now have a better chance at being successful readers.”

Ms. Chen
Words, Words, Words
Funded Mar 13, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The dictionaries you donated are being used every day. My students are excited about learning new vocabulary and even checking for accurate spelling in their writing. Our old dictionaries were too elementary for my scholars and the few that were appropriate for their level were in complete disrepair. My students feel so special using their brand-new dictionaries.
Budget cuts have had a tremendous impact on the resources we have available. Without you, my students would not have had access to these new dictionaries.
Thank you again for your generosity and your dedication to helping students.

Learning History Through Literature
Funded Jan 27, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. The new historical fiction books that you donated have been used by my students to learn more about history, as well as deepen their reading comprehension. They have read several of the books in book clubs, discussing and writing about their ideas with great enthusiasm. They also have used to the books to learn different perspectives in social studies. Finally, they have used these books as mentors to help with their own writing.
Our schools have suffered deep budget cuts in the last several years. Without your help, my students would not have had access to these resources--resources that help them read critically and write like favorite authors.
Thank you again for your commitment to helping students succeed!”

Funded Dec 10, 2011Thank you so much for your generous donation. With your help, I was able to purchase P.E. equipment to help my students become healthier and therefore, better students. We have already used our equipment to do circuit training. My students were so excited to do new activities in P.E. We got our heart rates pumping and our muscles moving. They had a real blast getting their bodies fit and their brains ready to learn.
Thank you again for your generosity. Your donation will help my students this year and beyond live a healthier life.”
