Competitive Math
Funded Dec 8, 2009Thank you so much for funding our 24 cards. My students are very excited! I have students at various levels of math mastery... "Guppies" (those struggling with basic facts and identifying mathematical patterns. They are at the single digit level) "Goldfish" (students who have moved on to the double digit and variable cards) and the "Piranhas" (students at competition level and have moved on to fraction and decimal cards). They are looking forward to being challenged with the Integer cards!
I truly believe that the 24 Game is a fantastic way for students to practice their facts, number sense and speed. Even reluctant math students find themselves caught up in the competition and begin to have more confidence in themselves. Math becomes less scary for them and they do better in class. As a teacher, it's exciting to watch a child who has struggled in Math, become more confident and volunteer in class. It opens up a world that they had previously avoided.
I am very appreciative of your generosity and the caring you have shown through your donation. The cards will be put to good use and will benefit many students this year and in the years to come.
Thank you again

A Picture Can Generate A Thousand Words
Funded Nov 13, 2009Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for my students. The cameras have a rapid fire feature which the students have used in Science to track the rate of falling objects. They realized that this wasn't as easy as it seemed! Some students will be using them in Science to document stages of their science experiments. While others will be using them to help in the actual experiment by using the video and rapid fire feature.
Science is not the only area where the cameras will be used. As the year progresses, students will be writing their own book for publication. The cameras will be used to illustrate that book. Students will putting together a class newsletter using the cameras to illustrate the feature stories. In addition, students will be making short videos and create slide shows on various themes across the curriculum.
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and your commitment to education. The excitement that fills the room when they know that the cameras are part of their assignments is just amazing! I am truly appreciative and the looks on their faces show that they are too!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Johnson
