Books about Body Positivity!
Funded Aug 16, 2021Body positivity is a new awareness that is becoming increasingly important at the middle school level. Students need to learn how to love and respect their bodies no matter the size, shape, color, or ability. With your support for this project, our students now have access to a collection of stories that feature characters and stories that focus on overcoming obstacles to body positivity.
These books help our students see that they are not alone in their struggles. These books help them to learn to appreciate and accept their bodies as they are. Our young readers are excited to read these stories. Thank you for bringing these much-needed books into our library!”

Funded Aug 4, 2021Being a middle school student is tough, and having no access to engaging and diverse stories and characters in books makes it that much more challenging. Our students need to read books that offer views into the multidimensionality of the world, with characters from different backgrounds and experiences. Your support for this project has brought these types of books into our library.
Even the most reluctant readers are excited to read about characters that look like them, with similar life experiences and backgrounds. When a book becomes a mirror for a student, this helps them connect on a deeper level and helps them foster a deep appreciation for reading. Readers from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are enthralled by this project's contemporary and diverse stories. Thank you for being a part of our students' lives as they develop and foster a genuine appreciation for independent reading.”

Graphic Novels to Support Readers!
Funded Aug 4, 2021Thank you for believing that education has the power to transform lives. Your support for this project will undoubtedly impact our students' lifelong journeys as readers.
There is something magical that happens when a student picks up a graphic novel. The student is surrounded by words and vivid and colorful images that enhance the story and brings it to life. Graphic novels are a unique type of literacy that allows even the most reluctant reader to become absorbed in a book.
Our library has gained 25 new colorful and incredible graphic novels, and these books are now amongst the most popular in our library. Thank you for helping make our students excited about reading.”

Bring Great African American Authors & Stories Into the Library!
Funded Aug 16, 2021Thank you for believing that education has the power to transform lives. Your support for this project will undoubtedly impact our students' worldview and their understanding of African American voices and stories.
Our students must have access to many characters and authors in the library, including this critical demographic, especially during this crucial time in our country. In addition, the African American students at our school can now check out books that are reflective of their own experiences and voices.
All readers get to read these vivid and colorful stories from the voices of wonderful African American authors. Your support for this project helps make all of this possible.”

Funded Jul 30, 2021The books you have helped to bring to our library contain engaging, high-interest, contemporary stories that feature middle school characters with a wide array of diagnoses such as blindness, deafness, paralysis, diabetes, autism, anxiety, and many other different and unique abilities that can sometimes get in the way of being a "normal" teenager.
These books provide lifelong lessons to students about accepting others who might look or act different than themselves. Our students are avidly consuming these stories! They are not only learning from these books; they are also developing a true passion for reading.
With your generosity, you have helped to make all of this possible!”

Funded Jul 20, 2021The impact that these books have had on our students is simply incredible. Our LGBTQIA student population now has access to books that help them feel more accepted and valued. This often marginalized community deserved a space in our library; thanks to you, this is now a reality.
Being a teenager is tough; feeling like you don't belong because you are "different" can demoralize young minds. The books in this project contain stories and characters that make our students feel less alone. These books are mirrors into themselves, their lives, and all of the qualities that make them unique.
Without a doubt, these books are helping to transform our library space, but most importantly, they are helping to transform some of our students.”

Funded Oct 25, 2018Through the donation of these high-interest novels I have been able to reach both avid and reluctant readers. Sometimes all a student needs is the right book at the right time to build the foundation (true passion for reading) that can last a lifetime!
In my class students are expected to read one book per month independently. At the end of the month, every student gets an opportunity to present a Book Talk. Book Talks are a great way to create interest and excitement about the books that students enjoy the most. There is no better way to promote a title than to have a peer recommend a book. Besides incorporating the Common Core Standards for Speaking and Listening in these Book Talks, students are genuinely interested in hearing their peers review a wide array of book titles.
Your donations have certainly had an impact on the lives of my students. I am incredibly grateful for your support.”

Funded Aug 26, 2015My students and I would like to thank you for providing us with the unique gift of watching this inspirational film. For a few students this was their first visit to the movie theater, they were all beyond grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Malala's voice is one that deserves to be heard by people all over the world. The film definitely highlighted her powerful story and her desire to change the gender inequalities in education that exist all over the world. My students heard her message and were in awe, but most importantly they were also inspired to create change in their own communities.
The Students Stand with Malala project is one that has definitely impacted the young lives of students all over the world. We are forever thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.”

Inspiring Young Minds: Malala's Story
Funded Aug 26, 2015On behalf of my students I would like to thank you for your support of public education. Thanks to your amazing contribution each of my 9th grade students was able to have his/her own copy of Malala Yousafzai's poignant story.
For many of these students this was the first opportunity they had to read a book front beginning to end. They were also able to learn different annotating strategies that will help them to develop as lifelong readers. Students participated in Socratic seminars and discussions around the many critical issues occurring in our world that are described in this incredible story.
This opportunity was invaluable and I assure you that the students were truly touched to know that organizations and companies such as yours cared enough to provide them with something as powerful as a book.”
With gratitude,
Ms. C.
