  • Healthy Snacks Build Healthy Minds

    Funded Mar 10, 2024

This year I have had more students with serious mental health issues than ever before. Having a few snacks available with me during class has helped more times than I can count to deescalate a behavior or stabilize a child overwhelmed with anxiety or destress a child with Autism who has been overloaded with stimuli. Having the oral simulation of a treat or the satisfaction of a sweet to pacify or distract them from overwhelming feelings has been exactly what many students this year have needed to be successful in the classroom.

Students were very excited when they saw the vast array of snacks available to them. My peer tutoring group that remained after school hours to assist fellow students were very pleased to receive snacks to help satisfy their hunger after a long day of school and this helped them to maintain focus and energy in supporting other students in their struggles with their courses. Having the snacks available also encouraged the students who needed the peer tutoring assistance to stay after school instead of rushing home to eat.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. F.

  • Provision for Life Essentials Improves Student Learning

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

I am currently coaching Girls Table Tennis and when I showed up to our game this week with snacks the girls were beyond excited. Our game doesn't start until 5PM and they are starving by that time and were so grateful to have snacks provided to them that would hold them over until they arrived home for dinner.

I also lead an LGBTQ club once a week after school and students who remain after school for clubs and activities are always hungry. Many choose not to eat the school lunch so by this time they just want to rush home to eat. Having snacks to share with them is a great incentive to convince them to remain after school for a couple of hours to partake in an activity that helps them to build peer relationships, supports their social emotional needs, and provides fun activities.

Thank you for your support to make this possible for my students.”

  • Two Screens for Teachers

    Funded Mar 29, 2021

Teaching during the pandemic has definitely been a challenge, as has learning for the students. Having two screens in use while teaching is extremely helpful, especially when having to share my screen with my students. Some examples of when sharing my screen would be necessary is when I want to have them see how I am modeling my marking of annotations while reading a text or when sharing a document to read aloud with them. As I am sharing on one screen, I can have my grading tool open on the other screen to add in participation scores as lesson is progressing or to see attendance of who is present at the meeting. I can also see on the other screen if a student is raising their hand to speak or if they are writing a question or comment in the chat. While sharing my screen with my students, I am completely limited from doing anything else in regard to monitoring what is happening with the class while I am sharing . A second screen allows me to keep an eye on the class, as I would in person- to see if they have questions or want to participate or are writing something inappropriate in the chat. Students appreciate when I use two screens because it helps the class experience to run much more smoothly and allows for better communication. It allows me to be able to multi-task and have a more efficient lesson.”

  • Reach Out and Support During Distance Learning

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

We were grateful that our supplies arrived within the first two months of school. Many students were able to bring home backpacks or bags filled with food for their families before schools shut down again at end of October. The students were very grateful since many were struggling greatly as a result of the pandemic. Many students shared that their parents were unable to work and were having difficulty meeting the needs of their family so this food was greatly appreciated.

During the school day, snacks were also available to students who were hungry. This helped to keep them focused and satisfied during classes. The variety of snacks allowed for students to have a great deal of options to choose from.”

  • Provision for Life Essentials Supports Learning

    Funded Aug 27, 2019

So many students have benefitted from the snacks you donated across a variety of situations. Sports teams that practice or have games after school have been able to have a snack to give them energy to carry them over until they get home in the evening for dinner. Students who need to complete work or finish a test during their lunch period have been able to do so without going hungry. Students who stay after-school for tutoring classes and to complete work have been able to have an enticing snack that enables them to remain focused on their work after school instead of their desire to rush home to eat.

Students have been very grateful for the variety of snacks to choose from and the opportunity to have them made available. We greatly appreciate your support of our students.”

    With gratitude,

  • Table Tennis Tenacity

    Funded Mar 18, 2019

The excitement and surprise on my students faces when they realized we have brand new table tennis tables and nets to begin our new season with is indescribable. We cannot practice for competitions or host the matches if we do not have competition approved tables. Last season we had two tables that were falling apart and breaking down- one of which completely broke by the end of the season. We also were short on nets since a few had worn out over the last couple of years and completely broke by the time this season ended.

We are so grateful to begin next season with brand new equipment. We are now also able to hold some practice sessions before this school year ends to start training new players for next season's team, since some of our players will be graduating this June and we will need new players. Having this opportunity to have our graduating seniors be able to train up a few new players who can take their spots next season is a tremendous advantage that we could not have had without new equipment.

The students feel so inspired and excited for the opportunity to play with brand new equipment. We are so grateful to have the support we need to help our team to be successful.”

  • Supplies = Successful Soccer Season

    Funded Mar 14, 2019

Thanks to your help, we now have the opportunity to have a successful soccer season. Our supplies have been running low over the past two years and sports equipment is not high on the priority list for a school's budget. Without proper equipment, we cannot train in a competitive way. Our athletes are primarily from low income families and cannot afford to be purchasing new equipment every year for the team. Soccer balls, goalie gloves, pinnies, ice packs, and first aid kits are all examples of items that get worn out, depleted, or damaged over the course of a season or two. Without the ability to replace these types of items, the team is at a tremendous loss when trying to train. Your contributions were vital to our team's development.

My students were beyond excited when we opened the boxes and they saw fresh goalie gloves and new soccer balls. They cannot wait for the new season to begin. With the new equipment, they feel confident that they can effectively train in order to be a strong challenge to their competitors. Our goalie had worn out the goalie gloves last season and was concerned about what she would do for the new season so her face lit up when she saw she no longer needed to worry because she had new pair. Thank you again for all of your generosity and support.”

  • Help Provide for Student Life Essentials

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

The excitement on my students faces when they opened my classroom closet and saw the numerous snacks available to them cannot even be described. They could not believe that anyone could be so generous as to donate all of this to them. During after school test preparation classes and lunch time tutoring, students now have snacks available to them. They are so grateful to have something to eat during their extended day. During Regents exams, snacks were able to be distributed to students to help to get them through extended test time. In addition, we are now able to provide students involved in after school sports with something to get them through practices and games. Thank you for supporting our students!”

  • Help Albert Lead my Students to Success

    Funded Nov 5, 2017

Thank you for this awesome on line test preparation program. My students feel like they can now be better prepared for this exam because they have the opportunity for extra study time at home, in addition to what we are doing in class. The many different aspects of this program have been beneficial to my students. They like that the correct answers are shared for the practice assessments they complete on line. Therefore, they can receive immediate feedback regarding why a specific answer is correct as opposed to waiting to review the answers in class. This has proven to be a very positive experience for the whole class.”

  • Help Albert Lead my Students to Success

    Funded Oct 3, 2017

The students have been very excited to have an on-line program available as a resource to help prepare them for their AP English Language exam. Having Albert available for our classroom, allows the students to have access to much more practice than is available solely in the classroom. In addition, the correct answers are displayed and explained for each question which allows for an actual tutoring session to be happening outside of the classroom. Having the option to use this program in the classroom or at home has been beneficial to the students, as well. This gives them a variety of options for learning both at home and in school with high quality materials.”

We are an inner city school with an incredibly diverse population. Many of our students are amazing soccer players, who with the adequate supplies, will be able to have a school soccer team and have the opportunity to receive a college scholarship. They cannot be seen by college scouts if there is not a school team for them to participate in.
