In my fourth grade class, my students are required to participate in STEM Challenge activities. These activities tie in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. During these small group projects students need to collect data on a given science topic (ex. Force and Motion), create presentations (ex. Discovery Education Board or PowerPoint), and take pictures/video record (to capture their engineering and math processes and share results with their peers). Students also record their questions/answers, plan their designs, and write their conclusions according to their findings. We currently do not have a way of completing all of these tasks easily, thus an iPad will allow students to work on these STEM challenges and assist me in evaluating their projects. I would also be able to share their work with their parents and within the school.
My students need an iPad in order for them to be fully engaged in STEM Challenge activities where it would be required for them to research topics, collect data, create presentations, and take pictures/record their project. In a 21st century classroom, it is vital to integrate technology to motivate and engage students, build their technological skills, and aid them in completing real life tasks while reflecting on their work.
