Accessible Books Help Us Bind Our Knowledge
Funded Nov 28, 2018We are so grateful for your extremely generous donation. We received the binding machine and coils today and have already made one adapted book to help our students learn all about school supplies.
Our students were so excited to be able to move the interactive pieces, engage with the materials and participate in reading the book that we put together with the help of your very generous donations.
We plan to adapt many more books and make books for the students to take home, so that they can share with their parents all that they have been learning and show how much they are comprehending with these accessible materials.”

Funding for Convention
Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you so much for your very generous donations with your donations I have been able to attend the state speech convention and have learned need techniques to help my students communicate using the iPad as a communication device. This has led several of them to have their own personal devices be available to them in the classroom. We have been able to use connection cables to connect our iPad to the school smart board so that whole classes of students can practice using communication software. With your support my students have learned to ask their friends for things they need greet their peers and their teachers. It has been amazing benefits all of us here at the school thank you so much.”

Funded Oct 15, 2013My students and I were so excited to hear the signature Velcro "RRRRIPPP" as we moved pictures that matched words from communication boards to our modified books.
Because of your generous donation, my students who were previously using "1 picture" to comment on their stories are now combining words to create 3 and 4 word sentences to comment and describe the pictures that they see in the books that have been created. These materials have also allowed the students I work with to interact more appropriately with their classwork. They are able to have repeated practice with reading, math and science as I have work closely with classroom teachers to give the students access to materials that were otherwise difficult to understand. My students have built up their confidence with their speech and with their learning abilities. Having access to these materials have made all this possible
Thank you so very much for all the positive experiences you have gifted to my students.”

Funded Aug 21, 2013My students and I were so excited to hear and see the response of people as we used our "talk cubes" to ask for what we wanted. I used the cubes to teach; my students quickly learned that they can manipulate their environments with the press of a button. During breakfast/lunch, they are able to request the specific foods they want (which has reduced tantrums significantly). In the classroom, they can request to go to the bathroom, they can ask for a drink of water and can indicate that something hurts, throughout the building they are able to ask for help to open a door, direct a friend, and in the therapy room they can engage in socially appropriate games with their speaking peers. These materials have allowed the students I work with to interact more appropriately with their classwork, as there are less children who as upset that their needs aren't met and so they can focus on learning those core skills.
Because of your generous donation, some of my students who were previously non-verbal have learned that their voices have power and have started using words to have their needs and wants met. You have allowed them their basic right of communication.
These small changes have helped my students, their families and their futures. You have been integral in showing my students that their words are powerful and there is not a better gift than that.
Thank you so very much for all the positive experiences you have gifted to my students.”

Games to Improve Social Skills
Funded Sep 11, 2013My students were so excited to receive brand new games to use during speech. These games have helped my students with their social skill and has helped them work towards their goals of better turn taking. My students are severely cognitively impaired students and although they do not participate with their typically developing peers in their classrooms, they have an amazing time working together in the speech room.
These games have also allowed my students in the general education classes to use their est speech skills to teach others how to play these games. They have built up their confidence with the speech as they have skills that they can teach to other and are better able to show compassion. These games have allowed all my students to learn to interact with different types of people through socially positive experiences.
Thank you so very much for all the positive experiences you have gifted to my students.”

Funded Dec 23, 2012I am so thankful for all your support towards my classroom getting materials for sensory support. My students have been eagerly sitting on the chair cushions and on the bean bag chair during speech and in some of their classes and this has drastically improved their ability to pay attention during the lessons. My students now enter my room, know which cushion "makes them feel calm" and sit down without a fuss. This makes my job a lot easier and makes my students more accepting of the teaching process.
I have seen great improvements in their posture which has improved their breathe support so they can speak in a louder and more appropriate voice, in their ability to self regulate, so they rock less, and fall out of their seats less, and in their attention so that they can move towards their goals faster as sensory needs are not interfering with learning.
I am so grateful for all your support!!!”
