Funded Oct 3, 2024I am so immensely grateful for your generous contribution to our classroom. By putting books into the hands of my students, you are helping to support the literacy of our future leaders. Students need books that interest them, and they need books that provide both windows and mirrors for different viewpoints. Your donation supported this, and I cannot thank you enough.
Students have been reading and enjoying these books ever since they arrived. Students have been checking them out and returning them enthusiastically, and they are loving them so much that they are eagerly asking one another to finish more quickly so they can read a book next!
Thank you for supporting my classroom and my students. Your generosity gave me hope and warmth during a time I needed it most. Thank you!”

Funded Sep 8, 2024I cannot begin to thank you for the wonderful materials that your support brought into my classroom. The stress balls and other fidgets have been a huge hit and have helped students feel calmer and safer during extremely uncertain times. Thanks to you, my students are learning coping skills and how to regulate their emotions, which are critical skills in today's day and age.
Further, students have dealt with extraordinary stress from college applications and the challenges in their personal lives. It has meant the world to them to know that there are mental health supports in this classroom for them. Just the other day, after an extremely traumatic day, I was able to have coloring pages on hand for them to utilize. That is all thanks to you.”

Funded Jan 17, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation. Because of you, I was able to significantly broaden the options for our Literature Circle unit. Students absolutely adored the texts, and they raved about how thoughtful and engaging the books were. Students found the books served as both windows and mirrors, offering them engaging views into worlds that were both new and familiar.
These texts also served as excellent springboards for discussions and essays on the human experience. Students used their Literature Circle novels to create vibrant one-pagers showing everything they learned, identifying theme, symbols, and more within their groups. Many of them said it was their favorite project that they completed all semester.
Thank you for your kindness and for providing my students with texts that they truly loved and learned from. We are so grateful!”

Vibrant Students Need Mirrors and Windows in Classroom Library
Funded May 6, 2022I cannot thank you enough for helping me stock our classroom library with these incredible texts. Students immediately gravitated towards these reads, and they have been flying off the shelves ever since.
Empowering students through independent reading is something that I see as vital to the classroom. It is imperative to me that students remain readers beyond their English class; I want them to see the benefits of reading outside of the stories they study. I want them to be lifelong readers, and by providing them with these incredible texts, you help me support that dream.
Many of these books are also helping students see themselves represented on the page. I have heard numerous times from students that these books show people like my students represented in ways they haven't seen before. Thank you for giving them "mirrors" and "windows" with these books.”

Funded Nov 13, 2019I cannot begin to thank you enough for your support and help. You made this field trip possible, and students had an absolutely phenomenal time. On the trip, they worked in groups to learn Walt Disney's leadership strategies. They also reflected on their dreams and were vulnerable with one another about their aspirations. After the trip was over, I asked them about their favorite parts of the trip, and they overwhelmingly identified the opportunities to bond as a team and grow as leaders. They said they loved getting to know each other through the program and appreciated that they now have concrete strategies to use at our school.
In addition, many of the students in Leadership are currently going through the grueling college application process. One student noted that the trip was a welcome reprieve from the applications and that her favorite part was "seeing all my classmates forget about their college applications and have fun."
I could tell the day after we got back that students were closer as a result of this trip. They worked more collaboratively, greeted one another warmly, and were eager to start working on new projects for our school. None of this could have happened without your generosity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us.”

Bringing Theatre to Creative Students in Need
Funded Sep 4, 2018I cannot begin to describe how amazing this field trip was for the students. As soon as we got off the bus, people were pointing at my class and saying how lucky they were and how cool it was that they got to go see it. The Pantages is so beautiful, and my kids loved dressing up to go to the theater.
The show itself was phenomenal! At every single reveal, my students gasped out loud. They were moved by the songs and the performances. It was truly spectacular, and many of them had never seen a play before. This set the bar incredibly high!
Once we got back, we analyzed the songs from the play for poetic devices, rhythm, and more. Students examined how theme and characterization were revealed and also looked at how the play itself connected to the texts that we've read.
Overall, this was an amazing experience that I can't begin to express my gratitude for. Thank you for this life-changing field trip!”

Funded Aug 26, 2015When I told my students that they were receiving nearly $2,000 worth of books, they didn't believe me. For one, they had no idea where all of these mysterious books would go. On the other hand, they just didn't know that people would be so generous and giving to them. Then, when the books arrived, they were stunned. One by one, they pulled the books out of the boxes. They each clamored to borrow different books and waiting lists had to be drafted up. Students who had been waiting months for books on hold at the library now had those books in their hands, and they immediately started reading them.
My students are using the books every single day. My seniors come and check books in and out every other day after reading them, and they continue to be overjoyed that there are still more and more books for them to read. Reading has become such strong feature of many communities, particularly online, and these students are now participating in forums and on message boards with other readers who have read the same books. They're becoming more than just readers. They're becoming fans of literature, ravenous fans who can't wait to get their hands on more books.
This project has and will continue to have a profound impact on the students' literacy. These seniors will go off to college next year after a year of almost daily reading, and it will show in their classes. Being a reader is a powerful identity and one that will take them far, and you have all helped to give that to my students. For that, I cannot thank you enough.”

Insatiable Readers Need Bigger Library
Funded Mar 12, 2014These books have had such an enormous impact on my students. They absolutely love the books, and they are particularly enamored with the John Green books. Almost every book continues to be checked out again and again, and it has kickstarted a reading frenzy with the students. Many students are asking me to order more books from these same authors, or they have organized trips to the library to find them on their own. It is truly spectacular.
These books have also helped students as they fulfill our school's reading competition expectation. Previously, students sometimes felt forced to read books that they were not particularly interested in when the reading competition started. Now, however, students finished their reading goals quickly without even noticing because the books are so interesting.
Finally, I have seen in increase in students' reading levels thanks to these books. They are more confident in their abilities to read and are moving on and reading more challenging texts. With summer coming up, I know students will continue to seek out engaging texts and continue to improve these levels.
Thank you again for helping my students develop a passion for reading.”

Funded Sep 3, 2013Even though we have only had the materials for a little over a week, the books are already flying off the shelves! The students were absolutely elated to see books that are modern. They picked up books and exclaimed, "Isn't this being made into a movie? I have to read it!" Students who rarely read had finished a book in two days and came back asking for more.
Several of these books will be used for Literature Circles coming up in the future so that students can participate in reading groups based around their reading levels. This will encourage them to talk about text and readily prepare for Common Core.
In conclusion, my students and I are thrilled by these materials. The teaching aides have been enormously beneficial for me to prepare Common Core lessons, and the modern books have ignited a reading frenzy. Thank you once more for your generosity!”
