  • An Organized And Fun Classroom!

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you so much for funding my classroom. We recently built a new school building. Our original building was VERY old and falling apart!

I was able to purchase new toys, centers, and classroom furniture with my grant. We did have to wait until our building was completed before we could use the items purchased. However, when the day came to switch classrooms it made it all the more special for my students to not only have a brand new functional classroom but to have nice new shelving, center activities and toys to play with! They were instantly in love with our new items!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richey

  • Dramatic Play!

    Funded Sep 24, 2018

Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom. My students were so excited to see this sitting in our room when they came to school! We have turned it into a bakery and a pizza shop and they've loved it! We plan to use it as a flower shop, and even a Santa's workshop! Having this play kitchen area has given my students an area to express themselves socially and creatively! They're so excited to have it, that they finish their class work faster so that they can go play in it! This play kitchen and table has been great for our classroom!

    Thank you again!

  • Technology Meets Art

    Funded Dec 12, 2016

We are loving our Silhouette Cameo! It is taking some time getting to know our new machine, but we are having fun learning together how to use it and finally have been able to create a few 3D paper flowers for our Spring Project! The machine hooks up to a computer and from the computer you download various shapes, letters, images, etc. to create your project. The machine then uses a blade to cut out your shapes, or you can use the pin attachment to create a sketch of the image. Getting the machine hooked up to the computer was a learning task in itself! My students learned how larger technology items work. They now know, that you have to connect things to the computer with cords and that not everything is "wireless". They also learned which cords fit to which holes.

Since I am new to using anything like a silhouette cameo, this has been an exciting task for all of us! Learning how to connect it, downloading the images, and finally creating the outlines for the paper flowers was an experience I'll never forget. We haven't even begun to use this machine to it's full extent and we've already made memories!

It has been very fascinating to watch my students work with this machine and a full computer (not just a tablet) to try different things to make it work. There were a few students who were so interested in the Silhouette and how it works, how it hooks up to the computer and how the computer makes it work, that they finished their work faster just so they'd have time to work with it! While we haven't created a full project yet, the process has been fantastic and I look forward to what we all we create with it!”

  • Large Group Classroom Carpet

    Funded Aug 21, 2015

We want to thank you for helping us get a new classroom carpet. We use the carpet daily. The squares are clearly defined and provide enough room for each child to have their own space, which reduces a lot of conflict between students.

My students were so excited to learn that we were getting a brand new circle time carpet for our classroom. They immediately came up with their own rules for when the carpet came in! We all decided we would make sure to wipe our feet outside before coming to the variety and that we would not eat or drink on the carpet and keep all messy art projects away. That way our carpet would "stay beautiful forever!".

The day our carpet arrived was a surprise for the whole class, it came nearly 2 weeks early! We went to lunch/recess, then came back and there was a huge rolled up carpet sitting in our room, just waiting for us!! The kids coughs hardly contact themselves!

Once the carpet was opened and set up, my students have taken great pride In it! Explaining to classroom visitors that our carpet is brand new and going over the "new carpet rules" with each person. :)

This particular carpet has also given us new kinesthetic ways to learn. We have used the squares for graphing, the colors for yes/no games (ex. If cat and hat rhyme, stand on the purple or blue area, if they don't rhyme stand on red or orange, and if you're not sure, go to a green spot). There are many other learning games we do that involve our new carpet! Not only is this class benefiting from this amazing carpet, but my future classes will also benefit and they will always hear the story of how we acquired it!

My class and I can't thank you all enough for your contribution to our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Richey

Our school is full of many talented and bright students with so much potential for greatness! I work in a very old school building located in a small, low-income, high poverty town, riddled with drug abuse. Many students are in foster care situations. Most of the children in my care are being raised in single-parent homes with many other siblings, many are being cared for by grandparents or other family members, and even family friends. Most of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
