  • Lab Materials for Biology

    Funded Jan 31, 2025

We can't wait to receive our Bounty paper towels, Dial anti-bacterial hand soap, Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, and masking tape. While paper towels and soap help us maintain a clean work environment and healthy space, the masking tape and rubbing alcohol allow us to create various science labs throughout the semester. I know both my students and myself appreciate you choosing our project to help fulfill. We will most definitely put all of these items to good use. Thanks again for helping make our school year complete!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Turkelson

  • New Arrows for a New Season

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

Our archery teams at both the middle and high school level have had an awesome start to the season. They have place in the Top 3 for almost every single competition they have participated in. They know that having new arrows for archery competitions play a role in their overall success on the range. We all love when it is time to take last season's arrows and move them into the practice cart; then fill up the competition cart with brand new arrows. Our competition teams are made up of 66 archers grades 6-12. Each one of them sends a huge "Thank you" for helping us be the very best we can be.”

  • Soap and Tissues Keep Us Clean and Healthy

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

Having the support of our community and donors really makes a difference in our classroom. We go through so many tissues during the school year and your funding of Kleenex tissues for my students is much appreciated and the bottles of Dial liquid soap help use further fight germs and ward off illnesses. In addition, the soap is placed on each lab station and is used after we complete dissections and other hands-on labs in Zoology, Earth and Space Science, Biology, and Anatomy. The Bounty paper towels are even used in one of our Scientific Method and Measurement labs where we see which paper towel actually absorbs more water. Because of your generosity, my students are well taken care of this school year.”

  • 'Cutting Up' in Zoology

    Funded May 26, 2023

Having a variety of animals to dissect makes Zoology a true hands-on experience. Our students get to learn and study about animals in the classroom through video clips, paper models of the parts of the animal both inside and out, experience live animals during a field trip, and then have opportunities to dissect and see the true make-up of the internal structures and systems that keep living things... well, living.

Now, thanks to your generous donations, our Zoology students will have the opportunity to dissect earthworms, crayfish, leopard frogs, and sharks. Who knows, maybe this will inspire them to continue their education in a field of science or medicine.”

  • Cleaning Up for a Great School Year!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

My students were so happy to see the items arrive from our Donors Choose project. Having paper towels, kleenex, and hand soap in our classroom and science labs is so important to keep our workspace clean and our students healthy. Having these items donated allows us to spend our money on specimens for dissection labs and other hands-on materials for our classroom. It also removes an additional burden on families to provide these items for their children. Your generosity is appreciated and noted.”

  • Racks and Backs for Archery

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

Having equipment that allows every archery to participate is a game-changer. The new Genesis bows were well received and have been slinging arrows since their arrival. Everyone loves the new colors! Archery is an expensive sport and being a self-funded program, we really rely on generous donors like yourself. Nothing brings a smile to our archers faces quite like having the equipment they need to compete in the sport they love.

Plus, having the bow racks to use during competition and practice keeps those new bows in tip-top condition. We used to have to borrow racks from another team. Now, thanks to you, we have our own.”

  • Taking Care of Ourselves and Our Learning

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Having everything you need to be prepared for learning each and every day makes our day so much better. My students love using the individual white boards and colorful dry erase markers in Financial Algebra. We can show our work, answer Test Prep questions quickly, and show our thought process.

It goes without saying that Kleenex and hand soap are always needed and most definitely appreciated. It helps us get through our school year with less absences due to illness.

Finally, the cardstock is so useful for 3D models of animals we are studying in Zoology. Thanks to your kindness, we can continue making this year great!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Turkelson

  • Dissecting to Learn More in Zoology

    Funded Oct 26, 2021

Having the specimens we need to complete dissection in Zoology is everything.... fun, first-hand learning. We have been fortunate to have an eager group of students who have really utilized their skills and demonstrated their knowledge of these animals to complete multiple labs this semester. For those that are absent on dissection day, or unable to participate for other reasons, the 3-D paper dissection critters (of the same species) is perfect! When completed, they are a colorful, accurate representation of it's real counterpart.

In addition, having soap at all of our lab stations really helps clean off any dissection remnants left behind and helps keep us germ free. We can't thank you enough! The animal specimens and anti-bacterial hand soap, the Kleenex are really coming in handy as seasonal allergies and cold/flu season begins.

We appreciate you and your generosity : )”

  • Going 'Tankless' for Classroom Copies

    Funded Aug 27, 2021

Having this new printer in our classroom has made a huge difference in the quality of work we produce. Now our ideas come to life in full color. Printed presentation are colorful and engaging. Certificates earned, and work samples we are especially proud of, will shine in our Senior Portfolios. As a teacher, I am able to print graphs and diagrams in color, making the learning experience easier for all types of learners. We still utilize good ol' black and white documents, but when we need to work in color, we can. Having refillable ink reservoirs will allow us to print without bankrupting our budget. Thanks again for making our world colorful!”

  • Learning With Science World

    Funded Jun 19, 2021

We are so excited to have Scholastic Science World monthly magazines in our classroom. There are so many interesting articles that cover past, present, and future science endeavors. Many of the articles have links to websites with more information on the topic covered so we can continue to learn more about how science impacts our lives and our world. There are also video links, contests, and opportunities to show what we know. In addition to supporting our science curriculum, it reinforces our reading skills, and expands our learning opportunities. Thank you again for contributing to our classroom and educational experiences.”

My name is Angie Turkelson. I am a Special Education Teacher at Hurricane High School. I teach Algebra, Earth & Space Science and Language Arts in both inclusion and resource room settings. I also coach the Archery Teams at HHS and Hurricane Middle School. In my classroom I try to build a strong sense of community by incorporating fun projects, engaging activities, and interesting opportunities and applications. I am always looking for ways to make the curriculum more easily accessible for all students. Outside of the classroom, archery is an excellent way for all students, regardless of their academic, artistic, or athletic abilities to be part of a program that builds their self confidence. It allows students to set personal goals and shows that practice and hard work pay off. It's through the generosity of people like you that my students can have what they need to reach their true potential.
