Supporting Teen Mental Health with Tools for Resilience and Well-Being
Funded Sep 23, 2024I am so excited to share the heartwarming impact that your generous support has had on my students through the Supporting Teen Mental Health with Tools for Resilience and Well-Being project. This project has already begun making a real difference in the lives of the students who need it most.
One of my students, who struggles with major depression and anxiety, was absolutely thrilled when I asked her if she would like a self-help coloring book. She's always doodling during class, so I thought it would be something she might enjoy. She picked out a coloring book, and when I handed her a pack of crayons, her face lit up with joy. At first, she thought she had to return the book at the end of class, but when I told her she could keep it, her happiness was palpable. It was such a small gesture, but it made such a big difference to her.
Not only was she excited about the coloring books, but she also asked if she could read The Anxiety Survival Guide for Teens: How to Build Skills to Navigate Fear, Worry & Panic. Seeing her take interest in the materials I provided and knowing that these resources are helping her navigate her mental health challenges is exactly why I created this project.
This particular student is the one who inspired me to launch this initiative, so witnessing her benefit from it has been incredibly fulfilling. Her enthusiasm for the materials we've been able to provide through your donations truly made my heart happy, and it reaffirmed the importance of having these resources available in the classroom.
Thank you so much for making this project possible. Your contributions are directly supporting students like her, giving them the tools they need to manage their emotions, find calm, and focus on their education. You've given these teens not only resources but also hope and a sense of control in navigating their mental health challenges. I can't wait to see how these tools continue to benefit my students.”

Funded Oct 3, 2024I am thrilled to share the incredible impact that your generosity has had on our students through the Care Closet for Students in Need project. Thanks to your support, we've been able to assemble and distribute personal care bags filled with essential items to students who need them most.
Each guidance counselor at John Bowne High School has received care bags, ensuring they have these valuable resources on hand. Our Assistant Principal of Guidance shared how the care packages have been crucial for students in difficult situations, such as those who recently experienced house fires. These students now have access to necessities like shampoo, body wash, and other personal care items—thanks to your kindness.
Beyond the care packages, students are already benefiting from the snacks and feminine hygiene products made available through the Care Closet. These basic needs being met allow them to focus more on their education and feel more comfortable and supported in their learning environment.
Our principal even included a special announcement in the school newsletter to highlight the impact of this project, ensuring the entire school community knows how important this initiative has been.
On behalf of my students and colleagues, thank you once again for your incredible generosity. Your contributions are making a direct and positive difference in our students' lives, giving them not only the items they need but also the sense of care and support that comes with it.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Spichalsky

Funded May 4, 2010Words can not express what a difference your donation has made in our classroom this year. I am eternally grateful for your generosity. The computer you donated has been used in my classroom on a new program I am introducing to my students. This online program helps students study for their regents exams while I can monitor their progress.
Some of my students have no access at home to do their online assignment so having this laptop in my classroom gives these students an opportunity to complete their assignments as well as receive the necessary review for their end of year exam.
My students will also be able to access SAT and ACT resources to get ready for their college entrance exams. My students and myself greatly appreciate your generosity. You have improved the learning of many students now and in the future. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Spichalsky

Funded Apr 13, 2010I can't fully express my joy, excitement, and thanks for your donation to my project. It is great to see that you share my vision for reaching children.
The books that you have donated will enable my students to expand their vocabulary, increase their reading comprehension and prepare for their college entry SAT and ACT exams. My students were so excited to see these books in their classroom, especially knowing they may take them home and return it when they are done reading. It is a great beginning to a new classroom library for my students to easily access.
Many of my students have already requested borrowing the SAT and ACT Review books over the summer. Your generosity has sparked their interest in preparing, well in advance, for their college entry exams. It is encouraging to see my students already thinking and preparing for these exams that they will be taking next year. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I cannot say it enough.”

Funded Feb 11, 2010When my students walked into the room they were so excited to see the supplies that you were kind enough to donate that their faces lit up. The quality supplies that my students used were so nice that they all wanted to keep them. Unfortunately, I couldn't let them but they were happy to know that the supplies are available to them anytime they need them.
My students were so engaged in learning constructions the period flew by. It was great to walk around the room and see my students smiling and having fun while learning. You truly have enhanced the learning environment in my classroom. On behalf of my students now and in the future we would like to thank you for your generosity. ”
