Active Movement for Successful Learning!
Funded May 14, 2019The Hokki Stools arrived and have been used on a daily basis since. Having the ability to move while sitting has increased the children's ability to focus not only during instruction, but while working independently as well. The stools are used while working independently and if needed, during carpet time instruction.
The students using the stools are very active 8 year olds, who were excited to have a way to move their bodies while working. They told me the stools have helped them stay focused.
Thank you again for your generous donation to our project. The children were so excited to find out that there were strangers who cared about them and their success in the classroom!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Barker

Active Movement For Successful Learning!
Funded Dec 3, 2015The Hokki Stools arrived a few weeks after winter break, and have been used on a daily basis since. Having the ability to move while sitting has increased the children's ability to focus not only during instruction, but while working independently as well. The stools are used while sitting at desks, during carpet time, and at the small group instruction table. We try to alternate between who gets to sit on them, depending on the need.
One of my students was in constant motion, all day, no matter what was happening in the room. Now that he is able to sit on the stool, he no longer gets up and wanders around, and is successfully completing his assignments and stays focused during instructional time. What a difference it has made in his life!
Thank you again, for your generous donation to our project. The children were so excited to find out that there were strangers who cared about them and their success in the classroom!”

Book Boxes for Brain Power!
Funded Aug 23, 2014Thank you for helping provide book boxes for every child in my classroom! When they learned that the boxes were a gift from people who cared about their learning, they were so excited and surprised that people we don't know would give them such a wonderful gift.
The students use the book boxes on almost a daily basis for individual reading time during literacy. Every week, they choose new books that are a perfect fit to their reading level. In the coming months, they will begin engaging in longer silent reading, and the boxes will be used more frequently. The boxes are also used during "buddy reading", where they read with a partner, or with an upper grade reading buddy.
It is exciting to watch a five year old sit quietly, with their chosen books, and engage in a reading activity without help from an adult. It is so important they feel successful as an early reader, and having the ability to choose their own "good fit books" is essential. It is comforting to know that when I am meeting with small groups of children, the other children can be engaged in an independent reading activity that will make them confident readers. Thank you again for your support!”
