I teach gifted students who often get relegated to the group of, "oh, they're smart, they'll be fine." They are often ignored, marginalized, and stifled in their creativity to fit into a norm we deem appropriate. Some people say gifted programs are elitist and promote class warfare. I say we need to stimulate these minds who will one day create new technologies, save lives and conceive of innovations we cannot even dream! These kids are the future, why would we not invest in their success? I strongly believe that to engage children these days, you need to move outside of worksheets and textbooks and engage them with technology and hands-on experience. I want learning to be fun, to help kids explore, and to encourage them to think outside the box.
