PreK is an exciting time for students, it is their first experience in a school environment, and sometimes their first experience away from home! This can be both thrilling and scary for our little ones. Many rules and routines must be learned, some are easier than others, some are more important than others, and some are specific to the school they're being taught in. For example, Our cozy little 7 classroom school building is over 100 years old! An important rule that we have to teach our PreK class right from the start is how to handle and navigate the materials and furniture in our classroom. Although we love our school and wouldn't trade it for the world, sometimes age can bring about some troublesome problems. Many pieces of furniture have seen better days, and are not the safest for little hands. We continue to use them because we need the storage and have no other place to put our things, but it is always a fear that one of our students could get hurt using them! With developmentally appropriate and safe furniture, my students would have the freedom to access materials without adult intervention. Keeping our students safe, and fostering their education are our main priorities. With your help, both safety and education for our PreK students can move forward significantly in the right direction!
