I teach in a middle school Federal Setting IV program within the public school system. This means that each of my students has a severe mental health diagnoses and is unable to maintain progress in the general education world. I am able to give my students intense academic and social skills training throughout each day because our class sizes are drastically smaller than the general education world. My students are challenged every day to conquer their mental illness and work to learn the necessary skills to transition back to general education. For many of my students, with intense direct instruction, this is a real possibility. My students not only receive academic instruction, they also receive mental health therapy individually and in a group each day.
