  • Explorers of Knowledge!

    Funded May 4, 2022

This project was a great way for my students to have some independence and responsibility. One of the ways they used the iPad was to manage their points on ClassDojo. They gave or took away points throughout the day based on homework and classwork completion as well as for classroom behavior.

In class we also used it for moments we were learning outside the class for videos, pictures, and note taking. The kids felt very important when it was there turn to be in charge of the iPad.

In a world filled with so much technology at your fingertips it was great to have an extra piece of it in the classroom.”

  • Mini Zookeeper Training

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Let me start by saying I'm so happy that I put this project together for my students. This idea was already being used in the classroom by other teachers as a class management tool. I did my homework and read different boards and comments to better understand how to put it together and into use.

My teaching partner and I decided this was a great way to motivate students to complete homework and minutes on a district application. We chose to create a point system for reaching different levels and "upgrades" for the desk pet. We would continue to use Classdojo that is already in place to track the students points.

We chose Friday as the big reveal day for students who had already made it to the necessary points. Their excitement can't be put into words when they saw our "Adoption Center". They were excited and have continued to work hard to get points to add upgrades to their desk pet home. We have used stickers to decorate so far and pretty soon they will have enough points to get "food" for their pets. The best part is that at the end of the school year they get to take their pet home.

Thank you again for your big hearts and donating to such a special project. The kids absolutely love it and they walk in the door ready to pick up their pets from Daycare every morning. I'm positive that I will create this project again for my future classes.”

  • Explorers of Knowledge 3.0

    Funded Oct 9, 2022

The kids are thrilled to have some extra technology in the classroom to work with. They are being super responsible in returning the tablets to their station and plugging them in to charge for the afternoon class. In the morning students use the tablets to practice some math skills. As we recently entered a contest to earn a free tablet by using a math app. The kids get here early so they have time to get points towards the free tablet.

Later in the day they are also being used to have some reading time when they finish activities early. During intervention students use them to practice their reading skills with programs like MyOn. On the app they read stories and then have to answer comprehension questions related to what they read. Others use them at the end of the day to catch up on their I-ready minutes which are required weekly for both math and reading.

We also use them to have Math Jams in groups. The groups each get a tablet and the teacher starts a Jam on the board. As the groups answer questions we get to see live on the board as the groups answer. When mistakes are made we can break down the problems on the board and see where they went wrong. The kids love to see the checks on the board and see their group points increase.

They are extremely appreciative of the donors who made this possible and treat the tablets with immense care. Thank you for making this possible for my students! I know that this is just the beginning and we will use them so much more in so many ways as the year progresses.”

  • Print, Laminate, Zoom, and Repeat

    Funded Aug 21, 2020

I want to start by thanking all of your for your donations that made this project possible. This pandemic has been felt by everyone not only in their personal life but also our work life. Teachers had to quickly adapt to a new way of teaching in a matter of days to ensure student learning.

Technology soon became our biggest help in a moment where so many things were still unsure. We had to create work spaces at home to pick up where we left off in the classroom. The ability to print things at home while planning and setting up for the days instruction on zoom was vital.

It allowed me to create resources not only for my students but for myself during our distance learning. Using my laminating sheets I was able to use specific resources multiple times using them as dry erase boards in a way. This allowed me to work together with students as they closely followed along on zoom.

Thank you again for coming together for a SMALL cause and helping in a BIG way!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Trenholm

  • Document Camera Helps Us Succeed!

    Funded May 16, 2019

Today children are growing up in a world full of technology including the classroom. We use promethean boards everyday to display the textbook and other materials for class. Thanks to your donations now we have our IPEVO document camera. This makes math and science activities so much more exciting!

Math in first grade isn't the same without manipulatives. However, sometimes it's hard to show the students how to use them. You have to show them in small groups which takes time. You can try to gather them in a huddle but the ones in the back can't see. The document camera makes it so easy to display the manipulatives on the board for the entire class to see. It definitely captures the students attention during our lessons.

It's also great with many other activities specially ones that have several steps or parts on a worksheet. You can guide them by displaying the worksheet with the document camera. Science demonstrations are a must with this camera because they can all see what happens as it happens!

I know my class is very happy to have this document camera to help us learn throughout the school year. We would like to thank everyone that gave a little to make this possible!”

  • Our Manipulatives Corner

    Funded Nov 20, 2018

I'd like to thank Chevron on behalf of my students and myself for fully funding my project! When I created this project I crossed my fingers and hoped that I would receive the funds necessary. This year I'm new at my school and the first thing I noticed in my classroom was the need for storage space. I knew that some sort of shelving unit was necessary to organize all the manipulative's we use during math time. In having storage its easier for my students and myself to access the things we need on a day to day basis.

When I found out that the project was fully funded I was ecstatic! Once back at school I explained to the students the project I had created and what it was for. They thought it was a great idea and after telling them it was funded I couldn't keep them in their seats. Can you blame them? As the days passed they kept asking when our things were coming in. I told them to be patient that soon we could organize and enjoy our new manipulative's corner. The day they brought the bright blue shelving unit in the students turned around and their eyes just grew in size. They all started clapping and cheering that it was finally here something like an early Christmas.

We all worked together to organize our corner and we use the materials we store there almost on a daily basis. When we worked on adding and subtracting the students were able to get their cubes to help count. During our lesson on money we took out the containers with coins to learn what they looked like and checked out their size. This week we are working with shapes and have them out on our tables to learn their names and new shapes we can create by combining them. Those are just a few lessons that have been easier to understand and complete because we have quick and easy access to our manipulative's. Next, we are hoping to get a document camera so that I can demonstrate things with the manipulative's and they can complete at their desk as its being projected on the board .”
