Turn it Up! Listen to the Music!
Funded Apr 4, 2012Wow! I can't tell you what a difference this has made in my classroom! Clear, glorious sound can now be heard for each piece of music my students experience. Students love the "cool" technology and its easy enough to use that they can take ownership in each lesson. I've also been able to transport more music with the electronic device than I could with a stack of CDs. This has helped with organization and improved my lesson planning to include MORE music!
Thank you again for your generosity and support of music education in our school.”

Mrs. King

Funded Nov 29, 2011I'm not sure that I can accurately express in words the impact you've made in my classroom. Students in all classes have been working with our new classroom instruments and having a great time making music! Students in the younger grades have experimented with the instruments learning their names and how to play them correctly. Older students have used them to play melodies, compose and improvise accompaniments and add sound effects to stories and poems. With more instruments to use in class, students don't have to wait all class period for their chance to play. They are making music the entire time!
Thank you again for supporting music education in our school. I am grateful for your contribution.”

Funded Dec 16, 2011This letter is really just a small token of my appreciation. Although we've only had the beautiful new rug for our classroom for a few weeks it has already made a big impact in the way my students learn! We are able to quickly move from our warm-up songs into dancing and moving and then immediately into instrument time so easily! My youngest students love singing on the carpet with their classmates and like counting the squares on the rug to find their seats.
Students love showing off the new carpet to their parents and other visitors to our school. They are so proud of this gift! Thank you for making their world a little brighter and a little happier.”

Mrs. King
It's A Classic!
Funded Dec 9, 2010Wow! What a difference these recorders have made in my classroom! Students have been working on reading and performing music in a variety of genres and having a great time! In most classes, students have exceeded my expectations by going beyond the lesson plans to learn more advanced material, create their own compositions and even improvise together!
Thank you for your generous donation and for your interest in music education. You have made a difference in my classroom and in the lives of my students. These musical experiences have let students experience success at their own level and have boosted their self-esteem and self-confidence. For this I am truly grateful.”

All Aboard the Music Express!!!
Funded Sep 17, 2010Thank you for making such a difference in my classroom! Students in all of my music classes have benefited from your generosity. Preschoolers through 8th graders have listened, learned, sang and moved thanks to the addition of Music Express Magazine and Activate in our classroom.
One of our favorite lessons included the music of John Williams. Students loved listening to "The Imperial March" and discovering that it is Darth Vader's theme! The listening map for this piece was colorful and dramatic. Students loved hearing the ominous sounds of this movie music and following along with the musical descriptions in the magazine. The lesson concluded with watching a video interview with John Williams himself!
This is just one example of dozens that I could write about. Thank you for putting these wonderful resources in the hands of my students and thank you for your support of music education in our country!”

Mrs. King
We've Got Rhythm!
Funded May 21, 2010Thank you so much for adding a little bit of rhythm to our music classes! Due to budget cuts, funding for classroom instruments is not possible. Your generous donations have put drums and guiros into the hands of my students.
It has been such an exciting start to the school year. Students have used the new instruments every week! They have composed, improvised and performed their hearts out. One student was very excited to have an opportunity to play the drums. She said "I didn't get a turn on a drum at all last year!"
Thank you again for partnering with us to creating lasting musical experiences. You have made a difference in my classroom and in the lives of these students!”

Tinikling: Let's Get Hopping in Music!
Funded Mar 19, 2010Thank you again for your kind donation! The students have started working with the JumpBands to learn the Philippine folk dance, tinikling. They are so excited to learn this fun (and exhausting!) rhythmic dance. Students in middle school are getting quite good at it while the younger students are just learning the basics. All students have left the music room glowing and chatting happily about what they had accomplished.
I am thankful for the opportunity to open up the world to my students through these activities. Thank you for being a partner in creating these experiences. You generosity has been a blessing to my classroom!”

Sing Me A Story, Read Me A Song
Funded Nov 12, 2009Wow! I wish you could be in the classroom to see how much my students are enjoying the mallets and books that your donations provided. Students are reading, rhyming, singing and making music. One student said "I'm glad we have more mallets. I don't like to take turns!" Although I did assure him that patience is a virtue, I'm really glad he gets to play more often too!
We have been using the books to create original songs and the younger students have added sound effects to some of the stories. We have created fabulous rhythms with body percussion and read some of the rhyming books as we clapped, stomped and snapped.
With the budget cuts that are threatening arts programs everywhere, I am so grateful for your support! You are still making a difference in the lives of my students!”

Mrs. King
Put Your Best Foot Foward!
Funded Sep 13, 2009We have really enjoyed using the materials that we purchased with the "Put Your Best Foot Forward" grant. Thank you again for your generous donations!
In Kindergarten, First and Second Grades students have used the scarves to explore musical opposites. Normally we just hear the differences like loud/soft, fast/slow, smooth/bumpy, high/low and so on. WIth the addition of the scarves we can SEE the music and use our bodies to show musical opposites. Students are also using the scarves as they prepare for our annual winter concert.
In the older grades students have discovered that classical music isn't boring! We have used the scarves to move to pieces like the "Syncopated Clock". Students were smiling and moving and making strong connections to musical literacy! I was amazed at their creativity and I think that they were too!
Thank you again for making this possible! You have really brightened up our music classes and got us on our feet!”

Mrs. King
