  • Listening for Education

    Funded Jul 10, 2019

Thank you so much for your help with supplying students with headphones. We are grateful for your generosity and appreciate your caring heart.

The students are using the headphones daily and enjoy being able to have a pair handy when they forget theirs. Teachers appreciate the help as well since not all of our headphones work and break easily.

The headphones are inexpensive and are easy to replace when they break. This allows for the teachers to replace headphones without breaking the bank and buying new ones.

Again, thank you for your generosity. We greatly appreciate it!”

  • Heating Things Up to Preserve Their Work

    Funded Jun 28, 2018

Thank you for your help funding my recent project! Having a new item in the classroom is always exciting and new! Now, having a laminator will allow me to save paper and the work of my students. This is amazing for me, especially, since I will not have to rewrite the same notes over and over again, I can make one, laminate it, use dry erase makers and write on the same one over and over again.

I could not have achieved this reality without your help! My students and I are forever thankful and grateful for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Edwards

  • Making Technology Available for All Students! Phase 2!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

In April of 2017 I started the first half of this project and I received 15 Chromebooks and their licenses, but that was only half of what I needed. It has taken a whole year, but thankfully, with your support, I am now able to say, I have a complete set of my OWN computers in my classroom! I can't begin to express how grateful my students, my school, and myself appreciate your kindness and generosity with helping fund this project.

Technology is becoming a key part of today's classroom and now I have a full classroom set of 30 Chromebooks to use whenever I need to. We use Google Classroom daily and having the Chromebooks will allow my students access to the internet for math projects and stations when they are assigned.

My students are very thankful to have this access to technology since most of them don't have computers or internet at home and will be able to use the computers when they need to for assignments in all of their classes.

Again, I can't express how thankful we all are to have such generous donors like you to help support students, teachers, and schools!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Edwards

  • Finishing the Chromebook Cart!

    Funded Oct 2, 2017

I started this project to find a place to house half of the Chromebooks I currently have. When I decided to hit the publish button I was only looking for a mobile charging cart, but when the project was funded a month later, the cart I requested was no longer available! I hurried to find a new cart, and end up having funds left over. With those left over funds, I ordered 3 TI-83 Plus graphing calculators and batteries to help add to the classroom set of working graphing calculators.

As excited as I was to get a cart, I think the students are even more excited, because the cart will not leave my room any more and we will have access to the computers all of the time! Technology is always moving forward and the Chromebooks allow for easy access to the Internet and information will be at our fingertips in a moments notice. I was also excited to add to the number of working graphing calculators. Currently, we have 16 that work and I have 28 students in each Algebra 1 class. Each student needs to have access to a calculator on a daily basis, and this isn't possible due to our current situation. The calculators are very important when it comes to graphing linear equations, calculating equations, and solving inequalities and these specific calculators are the same type that will be used in high school and in college. Therefore, familiarity with the technology is very important and the calculators need to be used more and more.

My students and I can't thank you enough for your generous donations to our classroom! Every little bit helps and we have been able to accomplish so much with what we have and we are excited to be able to use the computers and calculators regularly!”

  • Let's Make Digital Copies!

    Funded Aug 4, 2017

I requested to have a digital scanner for my classroom because I wanted to be able to scan student work, forms, worksheets, and homework assignments and send them to the cloud or to Google Classroom. I also wanted to be able to make copies of assignments in a pinch instead of having to go to the copy room and waste the time it takes to walk to the library when I can just scan it and reprint it in my classroom.

Having access to a scanner will allow myself and my students to succeed because they will be able to use it to send work they are proud of to their parents instead of possibly losing it before they get home. My students are most excited about the scanner because it works quickly and efficiently and scans both sides at the same time. Since the scanner will be attached to my desktop computer, the students will be able to give me their work, I can scan it, and they can see it being reproduced on my screen. This excites them because now they don't have to wait for extra copies or copy from my notebook when they are absent also.

Thank you so much for your help! We greatly appreciate your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Edwards

  • Making Technology Available for All Students!

    Funded May 3, 2017

I chose a project that would help ease the budget cut facing our school. Recently, we were notified that a set of funds designated for technology would be cut by 15%. Our principal notified us that she would try to get the core teachers a classroom set of computers and a cart so we wouldn't have to share, but it would take a few years. I need a set of computers in my classroom always. Three teachers, myself included, currently share a cart and we must schedule class time with each other. We work closely together and plan together so if I wanted to do an impromptu lesson on the computers I would have to check with the other teachers to make sure they weren't being used at that time.

I began using Google Classroom recently and our school district has moved to using Google Drive accounts so the students don't have to carry around a jump drive any more, their work is saved in the Cloud and follows them if they are enrolled in our school district. From the Classroom webpage or app I can send the students assignments, questions, videos, notes, and have conversations with them about their work without sending emails or making phone calls. Our school district also uses Edulastic which is a database of questions that teachers can utilize to assign assessments get instant data reports to track student progress. Therefore, having a set of computers in my classroom to use for an impromptu lesson will allow my students to create, explore, and expand their world around them using the Chromebooks.

My students are very excited because using the computer will allow them to escape the mundane every day lessons of sitting and writing notes while I am lecturing. With the laptops, I can send them the notes, they can actively answer questions while I am teaching for instant feedback, and enjoy working on the computers regularly when we work in groups or stations. My kinesthetic learners, those who learn by doing, are especially excited because they will get more hands-on work using the computers and lessons based off working on web quests and searches online. We can't thank you enough for your generous donations that will help the future of our classroom and the future of my students!”

    Mrs. Edwards

  • Scribing Notes for Those Who Can't!

    Funded Mar 18, 2017

I was in graduate school when I saw a Livescribe pen in a retail store and thought about how I could use it in my classroom. I really wanted it, but at the time I couldn't see how I could use it because I taught PE and we didn't write much. Now, I am in a math classroom and I have students who need notes when they are absent, or have bad handwriting and can't read their own notes. Therefore, a Livescribe pen has become an option to help ease the burden of poor handwriting or copying my handwritten notes.

The Livescribe pen works by using sensor that uses a specific type of paper and a software application to transcribe my handwritten notes to the computer. This has changed the way I capture notes and visual information during class. I can now easily transfer what I have written on paper to Evernote and Google Classroom for the students to access at home or while at school in another classroom. I can also save and access my notes later and print them out for students and possibly use them the next year! The students think the pen is like a magic trick because what I write is on paper and not on a computer screen but it will show up on the computer.

The headphones are also a great asset to our classroom because I am now able to have a set to keep in my room or to share with someone else who needs them. The students can also use them while working or testing in the classroom to help drown out noises made by others which can help them concentrate. The students will not have access to the Livescribe pen but will greatly benefit from teacher use because it will save time and their sanity (deciphering their own handwriting can be hard). My students can now read my notes and reflect on what concept was covered now that their notes are scribed for them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Edwards
