  • Class of 2021 Needs Something Special

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

    Thank you!!!!

We had graduation practice yesterday - which was the very first time all year that the entire senior class has been together.

Interspersed between graduation practice, procedural information, distribution of cap and gowns, plus cords and stoles - we gave away prizes.

I honestly felt like Oprah: "You get a prize, and you get a prize!"

Even with masks on, you could see eyes lighting up as members of the Class of 2021 finally had something to smile about. Our seniors cheered for their classmates - as they scooped up TVs, refrigerators, game systems, smart watches, luggage and mores.

Thanks to your generosity, EVERY senior received a prize. There were many things that we could not offer our seniors this year, but through your support, we did help them end with a great day!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vedros

  • Just Mercy in American Literature

    Funded Aug 23, 2020

Due to the various schedule changes and quarantines that have been a regular portion of this school year, we have not yet been able to read Just Mercy. In the next 2 weeks, we will be finishing the required curriculum - and we will end the year with this unit. I have already read the entire book - and have mapped out the unit. I am looking forward to sharing this with my students as we move beyond the required curriculum and delve into materials that they will see as relevant to their lives and the climate of America. I will be partnering this with the podcast Serial - and am thrilled to explore the flaws in our justice system with my students.”

    Mrs. Vedros

  • Growling Stomachs and a Need for Interaction

    Funded Feb 4, 2021

    THANK YOU!

My 8th grades are preparing to write argument essays - and they participated in debates to practice some of the skills needed for this writing assignment. Using these headphone - each of my students (23 in class and 10 virtual) were partnered up - and held debates on Google Meet breakout rooms. With motivation waning this year, I can honestly say listening to them debate sounded like a return to normalcy in class!

My sophomores - with a 1:30 PM lunch - are so appreciative of the snacks that help calm their growling tummies! We appreciate your generosity!”

  • Basic Needs Before Growth

    Funded Mar 1, 2021

Thank you! Although it seems so small, I have had many girls (including ones who I do not teach) thank me for keeping feminine products in the bathrooms. In a year when they are already stressed and missing so much, I am so thrilled to be able to provide this small pleasantry in their day!

In addition, my sophomores are enjoying the snacks - grateful to have nourishment before their extremely late lunch.

Thank you for being so incredibly generous. Know that my students are so appreciative - and we all THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Vedros

  • In the Courtroom

    Funded Jan 31, 2021

I can honestly say - this project is the first time in a year that I have seen genuine smiles and excitement from my students. They broke into cheers when I shared the news in our afterschool practice session (over Google Meets) and they giggled at how professional they will be using these portfolios!

The students who have already received their portfolio beamed with pride as they moved their case materials into their new professional cases. They are thrilled to have slots for pens and post it notes, a legal pad, and even a place for an iPad or additional documents.

Thank you - their excitement and smiles was exactly what I needed to see in this crazy year!”

  • The "New" Basics of 2020

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Thank you so much for you generous support! The snacks are bringing smiles to my students' faces - and they are no longer grumbling (at least not as loudly) about how hungry they are as they wait for their very late lunch!

It is amazing how a small act of kindness like offering granola bars or a bag of goldfish can make a big impact on the day of a high school student. I am the lucky one - as I get to see their appreciation first hand, but please know that they were told I am able to provide these snacks because of generous people who funded my project! YOU are the true heroes - and I appreciate your support! Thank you again.”

  • More Diversity in My English Classroom

    Funded Jul 14, 2020

We returned from winter break to our new unit, which includes The Joy Luck Club. Not only are we enjoying it as a work of literature, but we are also using it as a mentor text as we write our own realistic narratives. My students' writing is improving each day as they notice how Amy Tan used dialogue with dialect, imagery in setting descriptions, and character perspective. After noticing these traits in Joy Luck Club, they are anxious to try these in their own writing - and are actually enthusiastic about writing - which rarely happens! Thanks for getting this great book into my students' hands.”

  • Basics and Beyond

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

School looks very different this year, but thanks to your help, I am able to provide a bit of normalcy for my students. With a mix of in-person learners and virtual learners each day, the headphones with microphones are a blessing - allowing us to interact in small groups with each other!

The snacks are a huge hit with my students - easing the idea of waiting until 1:30 to have lunch.

I am blessed that yo recognized the social and emotional needs of my learners and helped me to provide a few slivers of normalcy in this time filled with turmoil.”

  • Engagement Matters

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Thank you so much! With the Teachers Pay Teachers Gift cards, I have purchased materials that I have been able to customize to meet the needs of my learners. I have found it easiest to create interactive digital notebooks, so my students have all of their work in one place. Fortunately, many of the materials that I am finding, I am able to adapt to meet my students' specific needs. I have found materials to help with teaching Beowulf, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, A Lesson Before Dying, and PSAT Prep. This year is challenging, but with your help, I feel more able to meet these challenges!”
