I teach in an urban school district with two classes of students: one is a substantially separate classroom with students who are all on IEPs and the second is an integrated classroom made up of students on IEPs and children from the community. My substantially separate classroom is comprised of nine students with various disabilities. They are all very unique, but they all have one thing in common - they need assistance in self-regulating their bodies. Each child needs assistance in a different way which is why need more materials. Our group of OTs have materials, but it would be helpful to have items in the classroom that we can utilize throughout the day when needed. We do this by using noise reduction headphones to decrease external noise, bumpy cushions and ball chairs to allow students to wiggle in their seat, therapy balls to receive proprioceptive input, as well as weighted lap bands, a trampoline, weighted vests, brushing, fidgets and so forth.
