  • Beach Games!

    Students in my Physical Education classes have learned the specifics on how to play cornhole, kanjam, paddleball, spikeball (round net), and pickleball.

    We introduced each skill separately and then created stations as they learned each new skill. Additionally, students learned these Beach Games as a way to interact with each other both in a competitive and cooperative manner.

    The next steps involve providing information on how students can play these beach games outside of the classroom environment.”

  • Sports Teams Speed It Up!

    The Sports Teams Speed It Up! project supplies were put to use as soon as they arrived. The girls basketball team used the ladders and the speed parachutes to work their overall fitness and to develop their fast-twitch sprinting muscles. What was particularly motivating was to see the inherent joy on their faces because they were able to train using equipment that is designed for the highest levels of sports training.

    The SlippNott anti-slip sticky surface proved super valuable as the basketball team advanced through the playoffs. The device was a source of pre-game pride and became part of the on-court ritual for the team. Again, the KBA Coaching brand SlippNott surface helped our student-athletes feel confident that their sneakers would grab the gym floor surface and they would be able to make the fast, quick, change of direction turns needed to outplay their opponents.

    The results from this project have motivated both me and our team to continue to write grants for modern fitness equipment to be able to enhance our overall ability to prepare our athletes. We are looking to raise money to purchase plyometric training boxes as well as a variety of different weighted kettle-bells. This overall experience with DonorsChoose.org has been amazing and we are extremely grateful for the support of our sponsors, friends, and family. Thank you.”

Please help send the Varsity and JV Girls Basketball programs to an NBA Knicks game at MSG this school year. In this scenario the gymnasium is our classroom. As their coaches, our student-athletes spend more time with us than any other teachers, and in some cases when we are "in-season" they spend more time in the gym than at home. The team becomes their family. It would be an honor to be able to provide an experience of a lifetime for these young girls to attend a pro basketball game. These students will gain the skill, knowledge and motivation to stay connected to sports, their community, and be able to share it with others. Attending a NY Knicks game at MSG with New York City public school student-athletes is something that I will be tremendously grateful for and I know that these students will remember forever.
